BMW E36 Coupe Track Car

This is a brilliant project, nice one. I'm especially interested because I'm knocking about in a '95 318iS at the minute.
My only criticism is the lower lugs on the terminal should really be crimped around the insulation rather than the wire.

My ony criticism of your criticism is that trying to solder that without melting the PVC cover of the cable would be very difficult, hence the use of heat shrink but I do know fully where you're coming from

it doesn't have to be fast to be fun and good on track. there was a 1.4 seat arosa at the ring that was doing 9 min 20 laps every lap

Matt - if you look at the shrink closely on my joints, it is shrunk over a multiple of ridges thus making sure that it isn't moving anywhere at all

Another day, another update
After spending a couple of hours indulging myself with Autocad to design the panel for the fuses and relays, I came up with the following:
Which transcribed to this once drilled:
With one of the fuseboxes trial fitted aswell
Excellent stuff - thats another massive drilling mission out of the way, just need my sheet metal folding machine to arrive then I can fold the ally for the dash and fuseboard and then fit them into place
Also got on with the main power feeds aswell from the battery. Just one feed from the battery to the external battery isolation switch, and then from there it breaks off 3 ways - starter/alternator, fused feed for powering the dashpanel and gauges etc, and main fused feed for the ECU.
Also drilled and cut the bonnet for the external battery isolator aswell. Once the black vinyl arrives for the bonnet I will fit everything permanatly
Bad news though, I'm back to work tomorrow after 24 days off - That means less time to do things on the track car, but not to worry, loads of rest days coming up soon

This just landed on my doorstep too a few mins since - 16 tonne hydraulic pipe bender.
I'm not sure if the 16 tonne bit means how much the fucker weighs or the pressure in the bottle jack as its bloody heavy.

Blimy its been 5 days since I have touched the car - back at work = no time to play lol
Anyhoo. Todays little update
Metal folding machine arrived and was put straight to action by folding the dashboard and fusebox.
The dashboard was then trial fitted into the car - perfect fit
Now the dash and box were folded, the next job was to cover them with black vinyl - a few small airbubbles later, and a few million tiny ones I CBA removing we have this for the Fusebox - Black vinyl back with a printed vinyl sticker for the lables of each fuse and amperage. Also the rubber grommets were installed aswell for the cable holes.
Trial fitted the rear spoiler - twin blade adjustable, wether it works or not has yet to be seen, but for the sake of £16 for an all aluminium race-style spoiler to give the car the "track toy" look and hopefully some usefull downforce, it will be worth it Also fitted the bootlid rubber lashings aswell.
Excuse the remains of the interior sat on the boot lid - these need binning still
Tomorrow my steel for the rollcage is being delivered, and hopefully, with a bit of luck, my gauges will arrive after the complete fucking fuckup by Royal Mail

Well since its not bolted on and only sat on the boot lid at the moment, then fitting can be well, avoided and proffit can be made from ebay..........maybe

If that spoiler makes a difference then I wouldn't hesistate to use it. Good project this, I can see your new budget of 2k soon becoming the old budget though!
