hi i have a 1998 escort 1.8d van and it needs a bit more power

can i fit a turbo on 2 my van of a 1.8td escort car

Probably....you'd need the diesel pump and injectors, turbo, manifold, intercooler, etc etc etc....
easier to buy the engine and swap over

no you cant according to Derv doctor at derby, well... you can but it wont last long, the internals are different i think, i looked into doing this to my old van. as said, easier to swap the engine anyway. there are some good sites around documenting the engine swap as here is some slight differences on power output amd wiring, i think a mk1 mondeo worked out best IIRC, cant remember off hand what they are but google is your friend.

You can try fiddling with the pump adjustments but realistically even if you manage a 5% improvement it's still going to be pig slow!
