My JZX81 Toyota Chaser
With a combination of not having enough spare time and money to plough in to the GTR, and the fact id grown to totally dispise the car, meant I finally bit the bullet and nobbed it off.
Initial plan was to plough the cash in to the S13, but actually having time and effort to finish it was still a problem.
Then, totally out the blue, a type of car ive wanted for years appeared for sale in Japan, in a spec exactly what id want, so I bought it there and then, fucked the S13 off too, and the rest is history.
There is only 2 in the UK currently, and ive wanted one since the 1st Gran Tourismo game came out, and I wanted the big fast as fuck 4door car on it, tho didnt have a clue about em at the time.
The car in question is a JZX81 Toyota Chaser, mega modified and built from a bare shell, and strangely enough fitted with a modified Skyline GTR 2.6 twin turbo engine.
As standard they kind of the Jap Saff Cossie, just a bit more mental spec.
They big RWD sporty cars as standard, with 2.5litre turbo 6cyl engines, LSD, etc etc etc.
This one was built as a project by Jap tuning company Driving Sports, and they have competed in the MSC drift championship in it, and I bought it from their sister company Ghost Dancer.
In fact what it was being used for was what made me have to have it, I had proof it totally rocked even as it was, and here is the proof- www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsweXrx_aGc

After a bit of pissing about getting the car on a boat, it was loaded on to a ship in Kobe Japan on the 26th of July, and is landing in the UK on 11th September.
I bought the car mainly as its a complete and working car with some mega mods, but as ever, I blatantly cant resist modding it even more.
I wont be doing much of the work myself at all, ill just pay people. Will cost me more, but ive got no time to do shit myself.
Ill decide what to do, but someone else can do it.
Most important thing for me, as I want to compete in Eurodrift at least, is a bigtime rollcage. Of course this will have to be a custom made job, and I want to do it properly 1st time out.
Ill get it painted same colour as the wheels and graphics, not sure what colour that is yet, white maybe? Bronze? Cant decide.
Speaking of graphics, I want it to look like a proper competition car, which it will be. already commited with various sponsors and helpers, so Sumo Power, Kleerfreight, Ghost Dancer, Driving Sports, Driftworks, Rota, XS Power, and Japspeed graphics will be going on it, and im sure more too!
Although the wheels are 9x17 all round, and very light and strong, im not a huge fan of em, so some 9.5x18 Rota GTRs are next on the shopping list.
245/40 tyres all round for now (though my friend runs 275s on the back of his drifter, but he better than me!), yes, even the front, you can fit some properly basass wide tyres on these and STILL get full lock.
The rear wing is gonna be removed, and most thoughts are to leave it wing-less, but a big gay carbon GT wing would prob look smart, as even that shit wing looks good in some pics...
Id like to get a Stack dash or similar, as currently none of the stock dash works (Nissan engine, Toyota dials- what you expect!) which is a shame as its a badass digital dash too. Currently loads of aftermarket gauges are used instead, and though id love to tidy it up by running a Stack, god knows if I can afford it!
Id love a Motec dash and Motec managment, but im poor, so I can only dream about that I think.
While the dash is out for the rollcage, ill get it flocked, gotta be done.
My line lock will be going in for random burnout fun, and if the stock handbrake sucks (looks good in the vid!) ill fit my hydraulic vertical one.
Only other thing I want is more power, not as if its slow, as you can see on the vid, its fast as fuck, and its got about 400bhp from a twin turbo 2.6 engine as it is, but I want more, lol.
Main reason is my mates one (with standard internals 2.5 engine) is about 500bhp and 500lbft on a GT35 and can do 190+, and I wanna be able to beat him in a race!
This is my mates...
Its not only drifting, this car will be used for general road based hooning around like a prick like my Cossie was, so needs to be silly fast.
Already got an even bigger intercooler, aeromotive fuel pump, and water injection to go on, but obv need more.
I got 2 options here, could rinse the fuck out of the stock stuff and get about 430bhp with lots of boost and a good live map from Stu, and though that would mean zero lag and fast as fuck, its still not enough to keep up with my mate!
The other option is use the big ass turbo (its a Holset, but GT40 sort of size, 700bhp or so), bigger injectors, decent fuel system, turbular manifold, external wastegate, etc etc and get an easy 550-600bhp on stock internals.
Tubular exhaust manifold and big external gate I can buy for less than 500quid for the pair of em, so thats no prob.
As the turbo and manifold are T4 flanged with a split pulse housing it should spool quite fast for its size, and I will wrap the manifold and exhaust housing to help it along too.
Next thing I will do, partly as it will spool the turbo RIGHT then, and partly as I wanna Is to run nitrous as ALS.
75bhp jet, set to switch off at nearly full boost, job done.
Due to turbo size I should get the power I want on pump fuel at less than 1.5bar no prob, which is important as stock compression is a quite high 8.6:1.
In the future if/when the stocko engine blows up, I got a few options.
I have decided, and its a good way to go, lots of people I know do it now and its a good idea, that I will always run a stock bottomend.
Reason is, on any engine, if a stock bottomend goes pop, you can easy find another quickly and cheaply.
If the bottomend is modded at all, you CANT find a replacment quickly, so your off the road.
Modding the head and all other bits is ok, as they much rarer to go in any real way that means you cant get another etc.
So yeah, if blows I could either stock with stock RB26 bottomend, better head gasket, tidy up the ports, remove the squish pads on the combustion chambers to de-shroud the valves and lower the comp, mild cams, and just keep going like that.
Other option is the stock bottomend RB30 3litre unit, good for 700bhp, but 3litres, and only about 1500quid too. And of course, the aformentioned top end mods.
Anyhow, hopefully the stock engine dont blow up for years and I have no need to worry about it!
So finally, for now, until I pick up the car in a couple of weeks, a few more pics!
And FINALLY, some photoshopped pics with the rear wing removed...

I remember you bouncing around at Knockhill telling me about this
Be sweet mate - we're doing a few big power Skylines these days - could stick AEM management on it for you too...
And an AIM Pista dash

But barring a couple of base model ones that somehow have made it here, there seems to be only 2 (barring this one) that anyone knows of in the UK. One in Birmingham and one in Bristol.
There used to be one more, but thats in Ireland now.

Newer ones just look different.
Hard to say rounder bumpers etc etc when they all got bodykits on em.
Fair few (well, 10-20 maybe) JZX90s in the UK, and only a couple of JZX100s. Doubt there any 110s, not sure, too new.

Steve, you seem to have been carless (i.e. not having one in a position to move under its own steam) for about 15 years
Can I suggest you drive this one for at least 5 minutes before we see pics of it in bits in a shed or on your drive
Looks fucking cool though

Mate, just because I dont shout about everything I drive/do in the internet dont mean I dont have cars
Got Sierra and S12 drift cars at mo, cant really think of many times since ive passed my test ive not had a "fun" car to use of some description, and have never had one day where ive had no car at all.

There's just something about big powered 80s Jap saloons hanging at silly angles that is so cool.
I'd have something like that over the obvious Jap choices anyday. Love it

Deffo not for the engine. Id rather have had the car with the original engine in it.
Why do people own S2 RSTs and Saffs? It cant be because they look nice. Or handle well. Or are relaible. Or set good performance times.
Theres more to cars than that, being a Ford forum we should all know that.

Steve, how much will this end up costing you all in all on the road matey?? Only reason i ask is because im damn sure that would have cost a fortune to build, and am just wondering how much of a hit they took on it when selling....... PM me if you dont think im being too cheeky

Wouldnt have cost them too much over there, still a lot more than I paid for it
10k+ over here though without doubt, a second hand RB26 alone is 2500quid plus VAT.
Everyone so far have said this car would be for sale over here for a good 8000quid+
Once all the taxes etc have been paid I reckon idve paid half that.

Minor turbo related update...
This weekend as I had the Redline R33GTR with me, I took a few comarison pics of the turbo for the Chaser next to the one on the R33.
The turbo on the GTR is a Blitz-KKK650 jobber and the powerband on the GTR is more than acceptable for me, even though its very roughly mapped at mo, and running a low comp engine with 280degree cams.
It has good power from 3.5k and mental power from 4.5k and with RB26s being very high revving engines, its a really big powerband.
Even with a massive exhaust manifold crack it had all weekend it still had a good enough powerband for me.
Hard to tell in pics really, but in reality the compressor is a little bigger on my turbo, but if anything the exhaust housing on mine is slightly smaller, and without the gay 280degree cams it should be just nice.
NEED to do it though. Even the GTR isnt fast enough to keep me entertained for long TBH. It takes a properly fast car to keep me amused.

Just added together all the costs...
With shipping at about 400quid all in, Duty and VAT at 800quid, I reckon ive got the car for about 4500quid (if i remember right what i paid em for the car, ive forgot ).
Bearing in mind a s/h RB26 in the UK is 2500+VAT on its own, and the only one for sale in either the UK or Ireland I can find is a very lightly modified one for sale in Ireland at mo for 6500quid, im pretty happy with that to say the least.
Just over 1 week till i pick it up...
