Mk4 Escort RS2000 track car
Bought this XR3i with a blown cvh with plans to Zetec it and use it as a daily runner:
De-chavved and engine out
2.0 Zetec in original home
2.0 Zetec in new home! 8)
However, the car was then vandalised which made me lose interest and take the Zetec back out so car was a rolling shell again! Wanted to keep it though cos the shell is very very good so it sat for a while when I decided what to do.....me and my mate decided to make it a track toy which would also be taxed and tested for a bit of cheap fun
His spare 2.0 zetec was earmarked for the Xr until this little delight came along:
Mk5 RS2000, complete except front Recaros! Car was mot'd and taxed with a good engine, full suspension kit, braided hoses and totally original. However the previous owner decided to hit a kerb at a silly speed which bent the back axle, and totally fooked the o/s strut etc. plus the car was totally rotten and had burst brake pipes etc
So to be a little different, it was decided the I4 was going in the mk4 so the stripping commenced and a little later car looked like this
and the lump awaits a clean up and a few changes then into its new home
Thats it the now as theres no light at the garage but RS gets scrapped next weekend and will get some more pics of the engine going in 8)
Still got the MTX box for sale, as well as bonnet, bumper, skirts, headlights etc if anyone interested
Hope you like

I agree it was a shame on the RS - if the suspension etc wasnt bent it would have gone back on the road but there was no way this thing was going back near a road - made me realise I'd like a good one though
Already got a 2.0 zetec powered mk4 so this is to be a bit different - plus the RS2k engine is 150 bhp out the box and i reckon once the PAS is off, EGR sh*te is off, cat is bypassed and cone filter/stainless exhaust added it should be quite interestin.....especially in a mk4 escort with nowt in it but 2 seats
CVH box bolts up once you change flywheel so thats that end sorted, just got to have a look/try with rear engine mount - trial and error really but will get some pics up. It has been done a few times so its not impossible

Look forward to seeing the pics of how it all goes in, it is quite tempting for mine if it's quite easy as the engines are getting pretty cheap these days!
To be honest, although the Zetec is good, the I4 is a cracking engine, and I'd pick it, quite simply on noise alone, they sound fantastic, and go bloody well

What motorsport success has the silvertop Zetec had?
The Mondeo BTCC car used a V6 engine, the WRC cars used a Cosworth engine?
The RS2000 rally cars used a 280BHP n/a I4 engine though, so surely they have more motorsport heritage? I thought the Zetec only really got motorsport use with the black top, like the CGI block in the Focus WRC cars?
Correct me if I'm wrong though

Have you not heard of kit cars etc? Have a look here:
http://www.750mc.co.uk/
How many wins do you see on there with I4?
Notice how Formula Ford uses the ZETEC and not the I4?
http://www.britishformulaford.co.uk/index.htm
A ZETEC is a ZETEC so the Focus WRC counts. Did the RS2000 win anything?
NA, up to 200 bhp the ZETEC is best engine for Ł per bhp and even as you go up to 250 bhp it is still competetive.

Just because you know nothing about the engine does not mean it is shite.
My 2.3 made 216bhp on PE rollers, the same engine with a GT28 made 300bhp at 12psi. The Cosworth Sierra I bought to replace my RS2300 only made 290bhp at 19 psi.
I'm glad that my days of small engines are over

Well, I did say I was open to correction and you have put forward a couple of things I hadn't thought of, so thank you
I won't say anything against the Zetec, it's a cracking engine, but for me, in relatively standard guise, the noise and sheer grunt of the I4 cant be beaten
Top project anyway, regardless of what people think about different engines

the current focus rally car uses a 14 engine, not a zetec to,
fuckin bullet proof engine, and make shite loads of power at very low boost when turbod,
ive got one sitting in my garage that im considering popping in the rs turbo when the poor little cvh spits out its pistons,
plus, there easy to turbo as you can boltt he 200 sx turbo manifold to them, which gives you some very interesting turbo chioces

Jees, who mentioned a can of worms
The reasons we are going I4 in this car are:
- I've already got a 2.0 zetec mk4 as my run-about
- the donor RS2000 was stupid cheap (Ł170)
- the I4 has more power as standard
- the I4 sounds fookin lovely
- its different
But thanks for all the comments, RS has now been crushed will get some update pics up soon

i was originally going to do this with my mk4 but found it was too hard to get it to fit.
the engine mount was the biggest prob.
plus i wanted power steering so the zetec setup fitted better than the rs.
but i love the rs2000 engine, i dont care what anyone says they are a fooking good lump that can be thrashed and are easier to get power from.
you can get 170 bhp with a chip exhaust and a filter and egr removed.
they have huge ports as standard and thats why they sound so throaty.

Well got engine in today:
Will get better pics when its out of garage but its bolted up to a 1.3 Fiesta 5 speed box with cvh flywheel. Bolted in fine, cradle is all bolted up and engine is sitting at the right height to start making an engine mount!
In terms of bonnet closing, got two options.... If we put the raisers at the back it closes fine or without the raisers, we need to remove the o/s vent and it just pokes out nicely
Also bought this:
Came along very cheaply as was outta tax and test and had been badly vandalised
Cabrio provided newish lowered suspension, a new exhaust, spare wheels and lots of daft bits we needed for the XR like driveshafts and various bolts - got lifted for scrap yesterday 8)
XR gettin moved to mates garage with power very soon to get the mount sussed out then connect it all up 8)
