Default Underside Resto advice - your input needed....

Looking for info on how to do an underside resto:

What stuff i use and in what order?

Steam clean, degrease, Stonechip, paint, krust, waxoyl (is it really needed after a resto)

Any tools that are best to use (however im doing it on a budget!), and any pointers/hints wouldn't go a miss.

I fancy tidying up the underside of my fiesta this winter.

Cheers

I'm gona be doing the same to my turbo next year, Hopefully! all im gona do is wire brush on angle grinder removed all old sealer and paint, fully stonechip it then paint with hammerite a few times!

Gonna do it in sections tho, back, middle then front!!

Mine's already stripped underneath so should make it easlier, plus im looking at making a bracket to fit on the hubs along 1 side which will allow me to turn car nearly on its side!

Hope this helps

wire brush attachment for grinder cheapest and very effective
remove ALL RUST
acid etch primer
hammerite (so the panels are sealed)
then stone chip or tetra (think thats how u spell it lol) under seal (the propper sprayed stuff not out of the tin)

remember to make sure u do it in a dry enviroment

Depends if its been undersealed before. Mine had tonnes of underseale on it when i got it so i found the best way was to soften it up with a heat gun then a scrape it off. After you've done any welding that needs doing then a soft pad on the angle grinder will get rid of any surface rust followed by a wire wheel on the drill for hard to reach places. I then used red oxide primer or etch primer will do followed by stonechip, then primer, and then paint or hamerite.

Check my resto as ive not long finished the underside

Stone chip first it seems.

Oh meant to ask - where do you guys get all your paint/stonechip supplies from? Anywhere decent online, - what are the brands to buy?

you wouldnt need much more than 0.5 of a litre of paint to paint underneath a car,are you going to laquar underneath aswell?then about 0.6 on laquar,to give it a good and long lasting finish

IMO Waxoyl looks a bit messy once you spray it everywere but it does stop the rust and is needed
