Did you only grind a bit off the calipers then.

Ive heard mixed reviews about the standard air filter box and a cone filter.

My mk3 mondeo calipers came today.I got them off ebay for 25 quid delivered. They even come with really good brake pads. The pads are like new. They even came with the bolts that bolt the caliper carrier to the hubs.

My mk3 mondeo ST170 brake fitting guide.

I bought 2 mk3 mondeo calipers for 15.99 with 5 quid postage each.I got the calipers the carriers the carrier bolts and the pads were like new so in my eyes it was a bit of a bargain.

I also got a pair of ST170 front brake discs for £40.01.

Right here goes.I attacked the calipers with the grinder.

There are 4 ridges 2 in the middle of the caliper and 1 at each end which I grinded down.

There was also 2 parts of the caliper carriers at the ends that were sticking out so I thought I would shave these off too.

I gave them a coat of primer to make them look a bit better.I will paint them black soon.

They are defo a bigger disc.

I trial fitted them to the car then put the wheel back on to see if I needed to take any more off the calipers.

I found that I needed to take a bit more of the caliper carriers.
Name: 20131026_100807_zps22f311c6.jpg

I wasn't happy with the bolts cause they looked really close to the disc when the bolts were in and fastened tight.I fitted some washers to space them out a bit.

I found I needed to take a bit more of the calipers cause they were still catching slightly.

I would say it took me about an hour and a half to trim the calipers down drill the hubs for the bigger bolts and fit the parts.I havent properly tested them yet cause im still bedding the brakes in.

So all in all a cheap brake conversion.I did heat the mondy brake caliper bleed nipples up the day before so that they would come loose cause I thought if I do this conversion and cant bleed the brakes I would of been fooked.

mate, once they bed in you will be thinking "ap who?!?!?!"

it's an awesome upgrade, i did it to the fiesta with 240 discs as standard and it's just simply awesome, there is nothing else to describe it

i decided to go with 16's though as it's the family runabout and 1500 miles a year is ok to run them size wheels, but if you do decide to go with the bigger wheels, if you are getting them from a mk6 fiesta the offsets are different so you need spacers

Looking at the pics now I could of got away without taking them ridges off the calipers.

I just thought I would trim them down before I trial fitted them to try and save me some work.If I was gonna do it again and had more time I would of trial fitted the calipers then shaved off the parts that were catching.

I just want people to be aware that if I didn't think this was safe I wouldn't of done it.I made sure I didntn got to far when grinding the calipers so please no snotty comments.##Thank you please.

Ive also booked a track day at donnington in novemeber so I will see how well the pooma does on track.

yes mate, purple with the 6 spokes on it

i also had the same issue with the bolts but they were the same length as the ones that came out so i couldn't understand why they were poking out the ends

also, the holes they screw into aren't threaded all the way through so the longer bolts will tighten up but the caliper won't be tight, just incase anyone else was trying to figure this out

taken at one of the middx meets

also, as i found out a long time ago, when discs get hot they expand across their diameter, so the first time i did this there were little noises coming from the calipers as the discs ground away the bits they were touching when they got hot, so if you hear any strange noises check there first before condeming everything as a bad idea

and getting the calipers for a bargain price, reslut there mate, if you had asked for some st170 calipers i'm sure you would have paid 3 figures for them

i tracked my old puma at combe and never had any fade, or brake issues and done 7 sessions. that was on the used pads that came with the callipers too!

so happy motoring bud
