They'd been out 2 yrs by the time the Millenium one came out. They also did Millenium Ka & Focus.

Think the first one they sold in '97 at the Ford garage I worked at back then was a Melina blue one.

Interesting fact about Pumas, Harvey Gibbs (SCS) did the engine development for Ford on the Racing Puma.

At that time I had my Series 1 turbo and got him to get the block rebored for me. I tripped over what was then a brand new Puma engine and asked why he'd got something so new in there.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/billabong/scs/puma.htm

When Ford decided to build the ST160 concept car that later became known as the Ford Racing Puma, it was SCS they approached for the development work. We started by testing the standard engine on our in house Superflow 901 engine dyno. We then set about seeing where we could get the extra horse power & driveability that Ford required. This involved lots of testing of new/custom developed parts, such as the cams, throttle body, inlet manifold etc. More than the 160 BHP was achieved, but as is often the case for Ford, the power was reduced at their request for the final road going model. (Cosworth achieved approx. 300 BHP for the Cosworth, which was then reduced for the road going cars).

I remember these from when i was an apprentice at ford and having to pop rivet the rubber front spoiler on when doing the PDI. I always used to smack my head on the a post although the cougar was worse!
There smart little cars and iirc 2nd gear was 55mph flat out
The millennium versions had full leather trims with Recaro front seats so it might be worth having a look for them instead of the standard seats.

And im sure the Mondeo silver top engine was 136PS and the black top was 128PS

Whilst I had the speaker pods out I gave the rear inner arches a bit of a clean out and put some underseal in the inner arches

Had another play against the lad from work in his ST170.If I had a bit more road I would of got past him.

Im gonna have a go at fitting a cone filter and give it a good cold air feed to see if I get any more performance.

They certainly stop much better with the larger calipers. Any particular ST170 disc your going for or just generic?

Just standard discs will do.Om not bothered about grooved or drilled discs.

Do you have to take much of the calipers for the wheels to clear.

if you get a standard pad you will prob glaze them in a day but if you can afford a good track pad on a standard disc they will be great.

They rev much more freely with a decent filter on them, however the effectiveness of cold air feeds are questionable.

I had to grind part of the calipers to get my standard 15"s to fit and its a huge difference they pull up nicely with this mod, and I put a panel filter in and ran a air feed pipe from the airbox to the grill at the front of the bumper, I loved the puma but the rot was getting to bad

replace the brake fuild with dot 5.1 and the rubber brake lines for hels ect,, just on std pads and discs its more than enough to out brake a st170 with upradted pads and discs.
