That was on the other week, made me think !! but what's the chances of hitting a 50tonne concrete block straight on, you'd never survive that, frightening really.

Although speed is always the contributing factor, its not always the speed that kills, its suddenly stopping, thats what gets you, sure someone famous said that before too.

if your dumb fuck enough to drive at 120mph where you can hit solid concrete like in that crash test, then quite frankly you deserve to die.

note also that on dual carriageways and motorways this is precisely why you have extensive crash barrier protection around bridges so you dont hit something solid.

IIRC they mentioned 400g, and it stoped in 68 milliseconds.

Well thats not right.
"two cars colliding head on, whilst both travelling at 120mph"
So surely that focus should have hit the wall at 240mph to simulate the impact force?
Or have I got that wrong.

I thought that too, surely he should have ment, two cars travelling at 60mph each, would be a combined force of 120mph ?

Also why did they change the front wheels to mondeo/escort GTi 5 spokes before the crash test?

Ouch!!!
If the focus is travelling at 120 and comes to a dead stop, Wouldn't that replicate a head on crash with another car travelling at 120?
Although I doubt that they'd never hit square on nor would both cars ever be the car same wieght.
neverless the distruction is shocking

Basically i think what they are trying to say is the car did hit the wall at 120mph, but the damage from that would be the same if the car had hit another car head on at 60mph and the other car was doing 60mph, basically theyve just put both speeds into one car and fired it at a solid object.. hard to understand, but would be interesting to see what 2 focus's smashed together at 60 would look like.. lol

I doubt they would look the same. a car is considerably softer than a concrete block.

sure it would be carnage and garunteed serious injury/potential fatality for certain but the dynamics of deceleraton and crumple zones when you hit another car are completely different to that of hitting an immovable concrete block.

I do believe the Focus is a strong solid car, i have the same as in the Video, 3 door mk1 and i have no doubt that if i was to crash it at motorway speeds, aslong as i didnt hit a solid object and i had my seatbelt on, id survive it, thats not to say without injury, im just pretty confident it would hold up well..

it all depends on what you hit i suppose..i smashed a f reg orion up at similair speed. luckily i hit the barrier first which pinballed me across the road soaking up the impact. all passengers got out without a scratch thank the lord

No.

A simulated crash with a concrete block, which doesnt move at all is exactly the same as two cars colliding at that same speed.
Two cars hitting at 60mph is just the same as a car hitting the block at 60mph

This rocket sled crash is better though
