Default My 2 door Mk2 1967 Cortina

Sold my saph few months ago after blowing the engine and throwing the towel in on turbo'd money pits. bought this and really enjoying the world of N/A!

Just fitted a new OMP wheel today which i love the feel of.

Quick spec is..

fully bare shell resto 2 years ago on spit
painted white underside
2.0 zetec on zxr9 carbs
Type 9 box
capri 2.8i front shocks and brakes
Escos seats

Was a classic ford cover car last year after Lenny built it, not a spot of rust on it!
Got a few plans for it, Atlas axle, rear cage, low pro tyres etc. but generally keep it as it and enjoy it!

Lenny's old car! Very nice, I wrote the feature on it in Classic Ford.

Don't bother fitting an Atlas axle though unless you have plans to massively increase the power, it's waste of time, money and extra weight otherwise

Yeh it really is a credit to him.

Well theres no lsd in this english axle, so instead of spending 500quid on a trans x to go in i thought it wiser to fit an atlas (which come with lsd as far as im aware) as in the the next year or so i plan to turbo the zetec.

only wanna run a t3'd 250ish bhp set up. but my understanding is the english axle wont cope? so didnt wanna throw money at it whilst im naturally aspirated still.

edited to add: what box are you running on your tina? i assume my type 9 would cry if i put 200+ through it and drove it hard lol

At las axles didn;t come with LSDs unless you find thew rare special ones which go for big money. You need a find a narrow Atlas from an early Mk1 Capri which go for Ł300 for it to fit under the standard arches and they come with the wrong ratio in them too so that needs changing. The prop will need changing more than likely, and it's a fair bit of messing a roudn as they are not a direct swap.

An English axle is fine to the 330 bhp mark (even on slicks) with uprated Quaife shafts and it's a much better way of going for you IMO.

I'm on a T5 'box as yes, you're right a Type 9 won't last. It's a bit of extra work getting that to fit too though unless Lenny put in an extra big tunnel which I don;t think he did.

Cool car though, look forward to seeing it progress. Any questions just ask as I know these cars/Zetec turbo conversions quite well now

Thanks for the info mate. looks like my axle is staying then.

may have to pick your brain for some more info when i start the build next year but looks like the only main mod i have to worry about is enlarging the tunnel and buying a T5 box. which i assume will mate fine to my current bell housing.

Am purchasing a roll cage from Alachi shop next week when i get paid and noticed they also offer pre made gear box tunnels for various applications so may have to cop one of those too!

Cheers

I'd certainly stay with an English in your positon.

The Type 9 and T5 boxes themselves aren't that much different in size, it's the bellhousings of the boxes which are the problem as the T5s are loads bigger.

By all means give me a message

Alachi stuff its top notch, he did my roll cage for me! Very good quality.
