my brands hatch track day (Crash)
on monday 11th I went to an open pit lane track day. my father in law was in his 4x4 sapphire cosworth, me, a mate and wifes younger brother shared a XR4x4 turbo technics.
all went well up to dinner time had an absolute blast on track and was doing really well. 1st out after dinner was my wifes brother, like me first time on track. I went in with him and just kept telling him where he should be and I was look out for cars overtaking, pointing to him to indicate and let faster stuff past as he done well for about 3 laps.
on one lap down the straight round paddock hill bend started the drop down the hill, he got a wrong gear panicked and got all out of shape!! fish tale about 3 or 4 times then all of a suddern we were off across the gravel and flying towards the tyres...
last thing I shouted was "oh shit" pushed against the car bulkhead with my feet and bang, straight into front passenger corner.
those tyre walls are harder than they look on TV LOL.
result.. end of track my session, in hospital miles away from home till 8pm. ME- broken nose cuts on my forhead from the crash helmet hitting screen and roof. sore ancles from floor lifting and hitting knees in to dash (see crack) bad ribs back and neck and swollen elbow form hitting the hand brake
Brother in law cut his thumb haha
apart from that what a bloody good day. definately want to do another

lorraine I know what you mean about taking a pride and joy car. dont really think about the worst happening. there was our spill, one rolled on same corner and an elise stoved the pit straight wall..
Rob Hello mate I came down and had a look at the cars in your garage. well impressed. take it you had a good one.
the engine will most likely be going into a black one next if all goes well.
Got the bug bad now and might sell the ST24 for a track car lol

Trist, I had never been to brands before but really enjoyed the day. I struggled with my brakes in the morning and started to get alot of fade, so switched to a new grade of pad over lunch I hadn't tried before and the braking was far more confident and I was staying out longer before pitting. We stayed until we were kicked out for the evening session. Thoroughly enjoyable day, would go back to brands again.

MASHED! You must of hit that tyre wall quite hard! Looked like quite a clean shell too!
Never mind mate, chalk it down to experience, glad your both ok and and raring to go again, the right attitude IMO!

not to sure on impact speed but he was excelerating down the hill when it went out of shape. mid way through 4th then straight off. gravel didnt really seem to slow us down as we sort of skimmed over the top of it.
was a hard impact. really took the wind out of us both. as soon as we got out the car we just sat on the tyre wall groaning trying to get a breath lol
funny thinking about it now. both just perched on the wall looking at the car like a couple of wheazing old smokers.

was not to bad mate. it did have a bit of rust on the sills which was cut right out and completely welded solid which did not bend at all. I think that saved my legs TBH
