Thats Dayle my navvy with the red one thats now a 1400cc car
Take it yours is a 1600. Any fancy mods ?
I'm still loving it at the moment....using it all the time and no worrying about stone chips etc…. Should be awesome round the tracks this summer….hoping to get to quite a few! Just booked to go to the ring at Easter also
Mines a 1600 but with the 16v lump from the GTi, supposedly 166BHP, Hi-Spec Brakes, Bilstein Suspension, etc…etc…. goes very well!

Looks like a right laugh John, I've had a basic 1.1xn for the last few month's, and although its got no grunt, it handles brilliant, and pedals are nicely layed out for a bit of heel and toe I've undertook allsorts of machinery around the islands on the way to work, its like shit to a blanket, would love to try one with more poke!
Whats the standard engine for the S2 rallye? is it a 1.6 8v? what do they go like compared to the GTI? considering either to replace the xn, just wondering which will be better for doing the miles, not mega miles but around 300 a week.

Matt,
The standard Rallye is a 1.6 8v and it produces about 100BHP at 7200rpm!! Its an engine you have to REV hard to extract the performance out of it as it doesn’t have much torque.
Personally I would go with the GTi as an everyday car for the following reasons:
1) There is abundance available, there were only 500 Series 2 Rallyes imported, take away the number that have been crashed/written off, then take away a number of shitters and your not left with many!! They can be quite difficult to get hold of and tend to command a higher premium.
2) The 16v engine is smoother and less work to extract the performance which is better for an every day car imo!
3) The GTi has all the toys….the Rallye is a stripped no-frills car as standard to keep the weight down. [Less sound deadening, wind up windors, less trim etc….etc….]
Oh and I find its more toe-and-toe rather than heel and toe!! Hahaha
