Default Why was thread deleted?

A forum member started a post in GD thanking me for converting his sump and saying the work was to a high standard. No prices or contact details were given.

I have seen hundreds of similar threads thanking non forum advertisers such as NMS, Turbosystems, Burtons etc. Non of them are deleted so why was this one. Please explain how it broke the rules?

For the record I have never met ridgy, he lives hundreds of miles away from me and I have only conversed with him briefly before he sent his sump after being put in contact with me by a third party.

Are you really saying that forum members can only say good things about forum advertisers?

Morning Doug.
No idea mate I will put a note in mods room to see what the reasoning behind it is once Ive found the topic in question as i haven't seen it.

The rules essentially state that you can thank or discuss who you like as long as its not yourself and you are looking to bring in business from our members without paying any associated fee's.

Its only when a trader actually offers items or services for sale that we would remove posts or topics but if you haven't done that then I cant comment with any solid facts so will need to look into it further.

Also, if the ally fabrication you do is under the name "Garage19" or "G19" (as is laser cut into the sump), then that leaves you with a trade username which we will need to change.

Maybe I was quick to delete it, but we have already had correspondence regarding you trading on here, which only heightens our awareness of further trading possibilities.

I am sure Mark shed, tony from turbos systems and karl from NMS have also had PM about work for "monertary reward" and you can not stop it and it is what keeps the forum alive Informmation is key and why most pepeol use a forum to get info to help them with the car/ project.

If you put a stop to this then this place will get very dull, as the OP said he was not tradeing or touting for work directly

This is just my thought and i am sure your will say i am wrong

If someone recommends MAD, or others then fine, that is ok (for the record tony is now a trader) as it is a recommendation. We cant stop that, what we do take exception to is seeking out work via PM's on this site. We cant keep tabs on all the cases of it happening, but if people want to report any uninvited PM's of touting then Im sure they will.

If someone actively seeks out work and touts their products, whether via PM or in any part of the forum then that is against trading rules and their threads will be watched more closely, and they may ultimately be banned.

If we put a stop to non paying traders the site will become dull? righto.

Yeah, you are wrong, ooh look, I jumped through your hoop, happy?

The thread was removed partially on its own merits, and partially on merits of other issues regarding trading, which are not public. hence all the questions.

So its crime was that people were asking questions and discussing them.

What else do you do on a forum.

As PAUL V above has said Mark Shead, Tony and Karl regularly answer questions on their products on here. Supplying simple answers is not activley promoting.

I feel slightly victimised.

As for garage 19 being a trade name, please try and find it advertised anywhere as a trade name. There is no garage19.com etc.

My only trade name is S*****k F******g S******s.

Question then, did garage19 actively seek out work ? did he start the post ? is the thread starter a trade person ?

The answer is NO

If we put a stop to non paying traders the site will become dull? righto
Please re read what i put,
"why most pepeol use a forum to get info to help them with the car/ project"

?????????????

And i say it again it is my point of view and i don’t expect you or the Admin will share it. But being a member i think i have the right to make it.

Comming to think of it, i've just noticed the bit to the right of my posts says i have been a member since July 2004 in which time i havn't changed my name. If garage19 was a trading name i would have thought one of you would have seen it somewhere else by now in the last 4.5 years???

Why not put SFS on the sump though?

Wrong, the answer is YES.

Why would we not share it? We are users of the site too, just because we are mods doesnt mean we disagree with everyone for no reason FFS.

And re-read what I put, unpaid trading is not tolerated in any way, shape or form.
Asking for help on a problem is FINE. Yet that has nothing to do with this subject does it. this is about trading.

Thread reinstated. on the premise that doug is not in any way shape or form anything to do with G19, or garage19, this is not a trade name and never will be on this forum then.

It isnt in that thread which is why I made the decision to reinstate the thread and admit it was my mistake to remove it. Though strange none of the other mods thought I was wrong, and none of the other ones reinstated it before I did, and the first 2 posts after its reinstatement were 2 people asking for zetec sumps....
Its about the bigger picture of trading/touting for work on this site as a whole. It will all become clear if I am allowed to post what evidence I have, which all of the moderators have seen.

Like I said, I dont want doug to feel victimised by my actions or the actions of any of the webteam, its just that certain things get brought to our attention and it would be tantamount to dereliction of duty if we do not at least investigate allegations of unpaid trade actions on this website, especially when we have such strict rules regarding this.

sinking fucking ships?
are you a torpedo?

ok, sorry, i'll get on with the point of the post

it seems to me that, unless you are acredited "trade status" via cheques etc and the rest of the rules as to gain trade status, you are breaking the rules about trading

if your company, and only your company, provide what everyone assumes, is the only place to purchase a certain item of car fixing/other unrelated products (lee rynolds for building for example as he got knocked for it) then you are going to be considered a trader

everyone knows mark and rod are associated with mad, tony with turbodsystems and karl with norris so someone could put up "fao mark/rod/tony/karl" ask a question in the post and, by the sites logic, they would be providing an answer and therefore it could be considerd as "touting for work"

so, it seems to me, that you are forcing all companies to become registered traders or else they may fall foul of this "one rule for one and one for another depending on which moderator you get looking a the post first" scenario

i may be barking up the wrong tree totaly, but that's how i see it coming from a non traders sort of point of view

thanks for reading
