Sport Ka - any good?
I know someone thinking of chopping in a 2000 1.7 Millennium Puma for a 2003/4 Sport Ka. Budget around £4K which includes £2500ish for the Puma.
The Ka is a bit slower, but a bit newer : are they reliable? Puma returning 45mpg - would the SportKa compare? Etc Etc.
A 20 mile each way commute everyday down A roads. Got to be an enjoyable drive though seeing as the Puma is such great fun round the twisties so doesn't want anything too bland.
What's the for's and against's for that kinda swap in your opinion Mr / Miss PassionFord experts?
Thanks.

It depends what you have in mind once you get the ka.
I don't think there are many options open for tuning as Ford only put that 1.6 8V into the Sportka.
I've got to admit that I like the look of the KA's especially in IMP' Blue, and I'm sure that they'll return a little more MPG, and they're a lower insurance group too so that will bring some more money in!
However I personally would keep the Milly as it has the performance, the looks and the seats are much better too

they rot like fuck, last year i took the 1/4 off an 04 plate for a repair and there were rotten holes in the inner 1/4 panel and round the filler cap
if you dont climb all over it it would be very wary
you need to have the wheels off and get right into the arches and behind the bumper panels
crash damage hard to spot behind the plastic and the rivets that hold all that shit on are rubbish as are the holes they go into
personally i wouldnt
worth goin a bit higher and getting a sporty mk6 fiesta tho

iv got a 03 plate sportka n i love it its great! realli nippy round the corners & grippy. i drive mine round town to work 4 days a week, then drive 20 mile trip to college one day week & use £20 a week petrol max u can fill the tank up for £35/£40. my dads gt a puma n i dnt like it no where near as much as my lil sportka! i hav to say i bought mine privately & hav had quite a few problems such as the head gasket going n needing a new water pump but these problems are very rare in kas every1 has told me! id defo buy from a dealer/garage not privately so u dnt get any trouble!!
also with the sportka u get ur leather seats, a/c etc so bit more extras than the puma! so go for a sportka!!!

The sportka's are a great car i think.
I had one years ago with a bit of work done to it, coilovers, 300mm brakes, striped out etc...
Since owning it i have had an ST150 and a ST220 and i liked the sportka best out of them all. Not the fastest obviously but the handling is ace.
I just wanted something quicker so got rid, hence why im putting a zvh in a ka right now.
If you go for one get an SE and check for rust. I stripped one to a bare shell to scrap and only rust i found was around the rear wiper, on a 53 plate!

yea, iv got a black 53plate and as with most theres a tiny bit of rust starting round the filler cap and rear wiper hole but other than that i love it. had focus's and escorts aswel but iv had more fun in the sport ka. its not exactly standard now but the only thing i'd say is get the se version. i picked mine up on 24k for £2500. bargin! nothing wrong with it. only thing i feel they need is stiffer springs and more power. but in all great little cars i know quite a few people that have had them and all loved them.

Only problem I have with them is there aint enough around being scrapped (none at all locally).
I only want the engine - be an ideal swap for my HCS.
I recon you'd have to be insane to swap a puma for a KA.
I know the puma's just a mk4 fesy in a dress but they're infintely cooler/better imo.
