There's not many decent ones around anymore as I think most are now water based, we've got some rare old stuff in our parts cleaner in the garage that we'd probably get a slap on the wrist for having But by fuck does it work.

I use brake cleaner aerosol these days. Can be expensive but avoids having to piss about with rinsing off with water.

The degreasers will not harm any components but protect any electrical stuff like the distributor with a plastic bag as they dont like water and go for it. I have just degreased the engine bay on my Sons Subaru Impreza, used a large aerosol and small brush and it cleaned it up a treat.
Mopped up some standing water and it started first time with no problems. I only use a garden hose as a pressure washer is to powerful.

Just buy a gallon of de-greaser from any motor factors, works just fine, or brake cleaner. Price is about the same anyway

Gunk plus the autoglym stuff and you can buy a hand held, low pressure steam cleaner from karcher, the Ł150 one is very good and I use that in the garage all the time.
