Default Would you say Im wrong

Passed my test over a year ago now, due to no job and the recession I never did get my bike.

Now all job`d up again im getting back on track financially and gunning for a r1 again

I Hear step it up from say even a 600 then to a litre bike, but id end up with a r6 and the money differnce isnt much between the two and do see the point really. as id have a r6 then a always want a r1?

Now for one i am strongly a believer i will come to a sticky end on a 600 or a litre bike just the same if thats the issue, so its me thats in control obviously.

Anyway this is along the lines in what im hoping to get guys

What is your biking experience? Any crossers etc?

If you were fresh to biking, passed your test and havent really ridden then i wouldnt recommend the R1. You got any idea how fast they are?

hey mate was exactly the same as you, thought whats the point of spending almost the same money for an r6 when the r1 is nearly same price, Its that old chestnut of
'' Get a 600 first you'll kill yourself on a thou''.

peeps are probably right, but it depends on how confident you are at riding, and what you have ridden previously. At the end of the day the bikes only gonna go as fast as you make it. speed limit is the speed limit, !
I took my full bike test a year ago but then lost my job,
I recently qualified in my new job and 2 months ago i totally contradicted myself and bought a ktm 125 sx supermoto.

Lol I was almost certain i wanted an r1, but i've actually gone off them, I'd rather have a triumph Daytona 675.

Anyway good luck in which ever direction you decide to take.

Thanks guys.

No riding experience really, other than doing test etc and wishing i had done it years ago, been into anything bikes for years now without having one. got the kit with no bike it sucks.

I plan to do alot of trips with the boys if i can, and thought the litre bike would suit me a treat for long journeys etc. and basically the look of them too if i spending the cash needs to be right.

daytona 675 is a very nice bike I admit.

chops your new bikes a cracker! you must be like a pig in shit

rab tbh mate stick with a 600 for a first, a thou is too much tbh. All you need is a little too much right fist and your fucked.

im the same as you mate, its how far you pin back the throttle thats guna hurt you, go for the R1.

if you ride a 600 with the attitude of wanting a thou id imagine youll hurt yourself more than taking car of the R1 that you really want

if your license allows you to get the thou go for it

You could jump on a thou or a 6 and ride them both slowly and be fine, the problems come when you start going fast as you will run out of talent far quicker on a thou than you would on a 600.

You wont enjoy a thou as you wont be able to ride it and pin the throttle back like you can on a 600

I've known lots of people go straight for a big bike and get in problems and it's taken them years to learn to ride properly when they could have got experience on a 6 and then dealt with the heavier quicker bike better when ready to progress.
I've also known very sensible folk be very respectful and had no probs straight with the biggun and never looked back, but they probably are a different style of rider due to this route IMO.
I think my time working up through the smaller bikes has taught me heaps over the years. More about your own skills rather than the bikes.
It would be a 6 for me for at least one summer, it's soon gone
Everyone's different

Yes i'm like a pig in shit mate. fucking delighted with the bike

I don't want to sound holier than thou or like a dad but honestly running before walking isn't a great move.

IMO having a thou first is like passing test at 17 and having a 500 bhp rwd cossie.

Of course it could be pootled about in but you KNOW it's going to be more than the driver can handle. The driver may be fine but one day it will be tatties and you know it!

I see it this way, work your way up to the thou and youll enjoy it more. If you get a thou straight away, where do you set your sights? You have nothing to look forward to etc, plus, theres no way youll get the benefit from owning a thou as a forst bike like there would be if you had some expierience on your back IF i can get into biking at the third attemt lol on the gixxer 600 ive just bought, i intend to upgrade to a 750 next then a thou of some sort!

In my experience I would say go for a 600 to start with. They are much more forgiving and will allow you to make little errors of judgement that we all make when learning to ride. A 1000cc bike will turn your little errors into massive problems very quickly.

For example open the throttle too quickly coming off a roundabout and it will either lose the back end or lift the front at which point to head straight across the road with no steering. Maybe a bit extreme and I know people say they only go as fast as you make them but it's so easily done with 140bhp at the back wheel.

At the end of the day it's your choice and only you will know if you can exercise enough restraint keep it under control but IMO a 600 will teach you more about riding than a 1000 and TBH you can't even use the full potential of a 600 on the roads these days.

dont bother with a thou on the road fella waste of time and money. if you want to go fast get a 600 or 750. i'm forever pissing past tits on thousands that think they are the bollocks. its just a fashion statement having a 1 litre bike with most people.

Do you like V-twins, I had a 636 ninja and couldnt really get on with it. Swaped it for a aprillia rsv1000, very easy to ride plenty of grunt but I wouldnt call it scary like a gsxr1000...

1 or 2 piece?

trousers are fucking useless for me too as my hip to knee is just too long. I use a stars jacket and heine gericke trousers.

but if yours were decent i'd maybe have it for the jacket. then again i'd lose all my battle scars...hmmm...
