Transporting a bike in a van
Going down south next week to pick up my new bike and was just wondering if there are any tips i should know about taking it back up the road in the back of a Transit?
I am going to strap it in as best i can with what points are available but any other suggestions are welcome
Cheers

lay it down, then it's go no where to fall, ,
sorry that doesn't help, if it was me i'd put it in backwards with the back wheel in the corner and use 2 racket straps to the handle bars pulling away from each other and get someone to compress the front shocks as much as pos when tightering them.

try and get bike wedged in between the passengers rear wheel arch and pointing towards the back of the drivers seat, take as much thick blankets as poss and do the norm over the seat carry on, through the spokes on the wheels etc as for pushing down on the shocks the ratchet straps will take care of that, guessing there will be 4 tie downs at each corner of the rear of the van, ken fit like tie the hoor doon as best u can using plenty o blankets.

A coupl eof relatively cheap investments amke this an easy, pain free job Paul
I use a 'Bike Grab' stand and a R&G Handlebar strap.

Also use another rachet strap over swingarm and slightly forward to hold back steady. Take lots of soft cloths and place them under the any place the straps are touch or are close to.
Hope this helps mate
Oh and what bike have you bought ? ?

Pretty much all has been said there really. I used lots of old blankets/big towels lay stood mine against the side of the van and strapped it there. It was as safe as houses. It depends if its panelled out and where the loops are on the van too I suppose. Just plenty of blankets and a few straps and you should have no worries figuring it out once you are there.

You never even told me you'd bought one *sniff*
Where is it Paul? Just in case i can use space to move parts in the van
When do you collect? And pics?
My mate bought a cbr4 from essex and i had to drive a hired transit down and back. We just had plenty rathet straps and a couple of old duvets. You can strap them in nice and tight so it'll be fine
