Options, Options, Options.......
I've been doing a few insurance quotes and being a new rider, the quotes are sky high so what do i do.........
1) Do a Direct Access test and have a full licence but keep my self on a 125cc bike ?
2) Do a A1 light licence (Restricted to less that 33bhp), get a 125cc, drive that around for 2 years, licence automatically goes to a full A1 licence and i will have 2 years of experience and hopefully 2 years NCB ?
3) Do a Direct Access test and have a full licence and get a bike over 125cc ?
If i do do a DAS.... Whats a good 1st bike to get ? One that i won't kill myself on and one that won't empty my wallet (Insurance)....

Do DAS. Get it out the way imo.
Depends on the type of bike you want, if you are looking for a sportsbike any of the current crop of jap 600's are excellent choices. go sit on a few, see which ones you prefer
As for insurance, forget about fully comp but unless you live in Beruit I would have expected to pay in the region of 6-700 quid for my first year on a 600?
What sort of quotes have you been getting?
Try www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk or www.bennetts.co.uk

The older R6 (replaced this year) is a bit long in the tooth now where as the GSXR600 has had a few model updates.
Both are fairly aggressive out and out sportsbikes. I love them

The K1 GSXR is an outstanding machine.
Performance wise there is fuck all to seperate them in reality but the GSXR is a bit roomier.
The finish on the Yamaha is a little better tho (but neither of them are a Honda)
I would go for the GSXR but go look/sit on both and see which you prefer as there is next to nothing between them

ooh and the r6 brakes are terrible aswell on that era of machine
just what all the writeups have said and i have ode a 2001 r6 and it was terrible then again so was the srad i rode

One of the best handling machines out there apart from that though
Bikes can be made to handle poorly though suspension misadjustment, fucked tyres, tired suspension etc but out of the crate both the early R6 and K model GSXR are outstanding machines and I've ridden dozens of both!!
Labelling an R6's handling as 'dangerous' is quite frankly laughable

Re read them
I buy PD, SB and TWO and have been in the trade for years. Apart from the tyre size thing and the odd comment about it being a bit dated over the past few years since it's release in 99 the R6 is a pretty awsome machine.
When you are discussing the handling of any modern jap 600 sports bike we are simply talking varying degrees of brilliance anyhow.
