Default Insurance advice???

Hi all

I put a post on here on sat about taking my car out for a couple of hrs & someone running up the arse end of my cossie!! (See other post 1st day out crash)
He phoned me today & asked what's what! I told him good second hand bumper (£200 from Gary rs clasics) + p&p new bumper inserts & brackets from ford (£65) & that's without paint & labour?? I got the impression he thinks I'm
Trying to have him over!!!!! As he did want just pay cash! Which I was happy with as long as the car gets sorted. Now he wants to come & see the damage to see for himself??

Would it be best for me to just ring my insurance & explain & get the ball rolling so I can get the car sorted asap?? As I'd rather not have a load of Chicken tikka experts round here telling me that a quick flick with a paint can & it will be mint!!!! As I am a fussy f-cker about how my car looks, & would this be recorded against the car as it really is just paint at the end of day!! Cheers & thanks in advance.

I wouldn't inform your insurers just yet, as soon as you do that's you marked as a higher risk, an a lot of companies will bump up your premium.

I'd let them come round, have a quote or two at hand showing the costs for the parts. He might think you are trying to rip him off as he probably doesn't know how much cossie parts cost.

On the flip side I'd tell him to get knotted as you'll be frowned at for not declaring the incident sooner. You got quote, he got pissy do it through insurance. Does teh car come up on AskMID as insured? If it does get the claim started and fuck him off. Worst case is he doesn't have business cover but his insurer are obliged to honour a claim to a third party (you) so it'll not be a problem to you. If he has no insurance it might be a different ball game.

They won't CAT-D the car for such minimal damage. I recently had a grands damage repaired on my A4 and there's no markers against it at all that I'm aware of on it and that's worth a fuck site less than your motor

He sees old sierra, £100 jobby. I doubt he will cough up the cash, personally i would say £500 note today or goes via insurance.

He will piss you bout for weeks and you'll end up then trying to get your insurance to sort it and he will most likely turn out not to have insurance or will try and claim it wasn't him etc.

Act quick, dont get fobbed off and if he wont play ball, insurance asap.

get 2 proper bodyshop quotes asap, show him if he doesn't play ball its via insurance but Id also do it quick to prevent him from claiming it wasn't him.

see what the guy says after pointing out the facts face 2 face, if your not happy with his opinion or solution just deal with the insurers, most important thing is your not the one out of pocket
