Default Insurance Refused?????

Going through my renewal process and received a call from a company that quoted. Started to iron out some of the finer points and was asked if I used the car for track days which I said yes I do. The guy promtly stated they wouldn't cover track day cars. I was puzzled as this is my daily driver that just happens to get thrown roudn a track a couple of times a year. He said his company have a policy of not insuring cars that are used for any track days.

Anybody come across this? I suppose they have been stung in the past with cars having mysterious accidents just outside circuits.

You could always try getting normal insurance for every day use and a separate specialist track day policy for those 'off road' days??

That's what he was doing.

You could be right. Crash on track and trailer the car to where ever and claim it happened there.

Never heard of it my self refusing a car that's used in a track now and then.

Its not about being stung with mysterious accidents outside circuits but a lifestyle/type of driver thing. In the same way they link your occupation (and hence character judgement) to risk, going on trackdays in thier eyes implies you like speed and thus are a higher risk on the roads.

I wonder how long before they start making us do proper psychometric testing before doing car insurance so they can risk load your premium based on your type of character? at the moment they only have occupation and relationship status to go on for that.

It's not just the insurance companys to watch out for. The RAC, AA and the rest of the breakdown companys will no longer recover a car that looks like a track car. No matter where it is.

We had a problem with ours when collecting it from a sponsors last year and couldn't get it started. (A wire was shorting out on a bracket). Anyway we called the RAC and when they turned up the guy said he would try to get it started but if it needs to be recovered we would have to pay for it, over £100 to take it 5 miles. We were in the middle of a city centre at the sponsors with his hame on the car and 50 miles from the nearest track.
