i sold my 205gti 2 a young lad who smashed it up about 4 dys later and ran away from the scene of the acident but handed him self in the next day...servrd some months in prison...i left the insurance running 2 get the no claims...the insurance ran out about 9months ago...but the other day i got a letter through the post saying some1 was claiming against me ...will i get done for not cancelling the insurance an a bit worried now

Only bit you will be in trouble for is that fact that you are basically trying to insure a car that you no longer own (or something to that effect).
Who is trying to claim off you and what for exactly?
Might be worth pm'ing Tony@Greenlight as he would probably know more than most people on here.

well i was going 2 get another car but its not easy 2 find a desent s2 .. so just saved my money....im not sure what there trying 2 claim 4 they didnt tell me ...but if the insurance look at police records in sure the crash would have been recorded as the kid who crashed....it must be clear to them it wasnt me who crashed..f ing idiots man pissing me off ...i swear if it get done for this ...that kid is going 2 get it
You should have put the policy on a "suspension" basis, where the policy is basically put on hold until it can be allocated to a replacement car.
What you will probably find is that the car caused damage to either property (wall, road, etc..) or to another vehicle and their insurance have probably gone to the MIB who have found that insurance is still on the Peugeot. So, as you have insurance on the vehicle still, you are next in line for them to reclaim their money.
As I say, Tony @ Greenlight would most likely be your best friend in this instance as my information will be a little sketchy @ best and will only be my own opinion.

Hi Bournemouth,
Sorry to hear about your predicament buddy.
If the guy had carried out a hit & run, it's likely that the Insurer of the guy that he ran into would have ran a Motor Insurers Database search to look for current Insurance policies, found yours and directed the claim to your Insurer as a result of this.
What you will need to do is contact your own Insurer and if possible the Insurer of
the guy making the claim from you to apprise them of the situation.
To neaten things up, it would be prudent to forward them a copy of the sale slip showing the date the vehicle was sold, along with anything you have to support the sale of the vehicle (ie. copy of sale receipt or even a copy bank statement paying the cash in for the sale).
Clearly the police could back you up if required and this would also be worth pointing out to all concerned.
I quite understand that you would have left your prior car open as you were "searching for another car", which is what you need to inform your Insurer.
The best starting point would be to contact both Insurers to obtain specific contact details of claims handlers and references.
Then sit down and draft a letter outlining the situation, with supporting evidence and requesting their comments as to your enclosure.
Send this by special delivery and follow up if you havent heard within 2 weeks by checking to make sure they received the letter, then advise that they are falsely damaging your reputation/record and request written confirmation from the other side that they will cease action against you.
This can be passed to your own Insurer to get them to close their file on the claim, unless your Insurer is satisfied & can delete the claim from your record with them this may still show up on your record (albeit with zero costs) even though closed.
You can pretty much sort this situation out but courtesy of matey it will be a bit onerous in the short term.
If you had been with us at the time of the claim I could handle most of this for you, but this aside if you need further advice simply PM me and i'll do what I can.
Kind regards
Tony
