A car i was towing crashed. whos to blame????? (UPDATE END OF PAGE 2)
as said realy its not been the best sunday to say the least!!
a mate of mine has an astra gsi, the cambelt snaped a few mounths ago and it has sat out side his house for a few mounths.
he has rented a lockup to put it in and asked me to tow it there with him.
we pumped the tyres up atached the rope and set off we went round the first corner and (im not evon sure what happend!!) but he hit a parked vw pasat done the hold side, rear quater, boath doors, and the frount wing
and it pushed into a parked metro. the guy who owned the metro came out and said the vw is his nabours car. but he then tells us the guy who owns the vw is a police officer sweeeeet as!!!
he dose cut us some slack tho he tell us not to worry about the metro as well lets face it its a metro
he took boath our regs and our details ect ect
i just wanna no whats going to happen now?? my mate said he was driving the astra that done the damage so he is to blame and its nothink to do with me............but ive got a fealing its not going to be as easy as that
any advice peeps???

I would say that your responsible for towing the car but i bet your mate forgot to turn the ignition on and the steering lock engaged so he couldn't get round the corner .
I'd get ready for some pain if your mate wasn't insured .

It might come back onto you tbh mate especially if the astra has no tax/test/inurance, 2 lads i know got pulled towing a car back from the painters car being towed had no tax/test etc the lad in the tow car got points and a fine but the lad who was sat in the car being towed diddnt get a thing.

Sad thing is it may only have cost Ł15ish for day insurance, which is a small price to pay, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I myself have towed a few vehicles without the vehicle being insured, though I wouldnt do that now.
Last time I done it was I was brining my convertible back up from Birmingham 7 years ago, the cops stopped us on the way into the services, but were brand new with us after we explained what was happening. I was told not to leave the service station without the car being on a dolly or trailer.

Do you provide cover for trailer tents?
Our policy covers, on a Third Party Only (TPO) basis, any vehicle insured by us for towing a trailer (including a caravan, trailer tent or horse box) or disabled mechanically propelled vehicle (i.e. towing a broken down car) as allowed by law. However, we are not liable for any claim arising from loss of the towed trailer or vehicle or property being carried in or on the towed trailer or vehicle and while such trailer or vehicle is being towed for reward.
The way I read this, is that the Churchill will not be liable for the broken vehicle that is being towed in the event of any damage it may cause.
Check your insurance to see the small print

not too sure on that one
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAn...code/DG_069855
In the event of a breakdown, be aware that towing a vehicle on a tow rope is potentially dangerous. You should consider professional recovery.
Above says it is potentially dangerous, not illegal

It's not about the blame, it's about the claim. If the Astra isn't insured, or the Astra driver isn't insured under a different policy then the person who was hit will have to claim off his insurance. This is the best way.
If the police get involved I'm sure you won't get any grief but your mate might if he's not insured.

just finding my feet
clarke your mate is responsible,, he will be done for no insurance if the police are involved,, but tbh hes gonna have to pay it anyway and the police never pulled him so will prob end up just out of pocket,,,, on and everyones neighbour is a copper if you do something wrong,,, and the neighbour is not home in my experience
