Default Vibrations either CV/diff/gearbox :(

Typically after spending tons of money and having the car handle and brake like a dream, its developed a horrible vibration/grinding noise coming from the front right. I have checked all the clearances on the floating discs and they are spot on.

It also only happens when turning left. I pulled back the outer cv boot last night and it looked to be in one piece if a bit dry. I have also noticed that i can feel a vibration after I come to a stop!, around my left foot area as if it is coming from the front diff/prop area. Obviously nothing is rotating so what might it be? Although I can't recall if I had the clutch dipped or not so it could be a gearbox problem although this shouldn't be affected by turning either way. All gears work fine.

Its booked in at SCC thursday anyway, but has anyone had any similar problems with shafts/cv joint etc As soon as i take the car from a straight line and turn right it goes away

Yes, as Mike says............I had the same problem for a while.........but TBH it is more like a 15/20 min job as you have to remove the heat shield, loosen the 3 exhaust to turbo flange nuts and than tighten them in the correct sequence so as to "pull" the exhaust down pipe into the correct position.

Just been under the car again and removed the sump/engine cover. Exhaust its mighty close to the chassis rail. I wouldn't be able to get a fag paper through there. Hopefully SCC will confirm this when they give it the once over Everything else feels and looks nice and tight with no problems.

Paul, although it doesn't sound like it's the cause of your issue - whilst you are under there, check the front proshaft front joint for wear, it can cause strange vibrations and knock on the exhaust downpipe - but often gives no warning before it comes apart causing huge mayhem..

I did have a look at this, looked OK from just a quick once over, should these be regreased in any special way?. THe prop is way clear of the exhaust though.

Thanks

they are effectively 'maintenance free' Paul (no greasing mechanism), but due to the proximity of the exhaust end up drying out the grease, with the subsequent wear etc.
You can replace the UJ if worn, and there is the possibility of getting one with a grease nipple fitted.

As long as you've checked and it's OK then that's fine - it makes an unbelieveable mess if it comes apart at speed!
