Zetec problem

My mum wants to sell her car but before she advertises it she wants it to be running sweet.
The only running problem it has is a hunting when started from cold, it doesnt happen all the time though, its been to a ford dealer and a couple of indepedant garages and she's been told theres nothing wrong with it
Basically it revs between tickover and 3k contantly and when slowing down this is obviously dangerous as it tries to run away with you!
Could it be some sensor of sorts? lambda or coolant temp sensor? need to sort it as shes seen a car she likes (at last
)
Cheers for any help

the only "cures" ive read about with is one of two things.
1) ICV (idle control valve)
2) The sensor attached to the catalytic converter.
Both are worth a good clean before spending stupid money, IIRC the ICV is behind the manifold, find someone with small hands!

to be honest i have never attempted removing my ICV but i have heard it can be a nightmare to remove and refit, no springs or washers to loose just a couple of bolts and its off, heres what it should look like...

Before it would idle straight upto 2.5k from cold, after it was 1750 ish, then after a minute dropped to 1500 then another min and it was just above normal idle, I reckon another few minutes and it would be sound, didnt get time so will give it a proper test tomorrow.
Cheers for your help
PS, whats the cam cover gasket change like? noticed it was leaking a bit while I was doing the ISCV

glad you got it sorted mate , from what you have descibed that sounds about normal now.
cam cover gasket is well easy to change only about 6-8 bolts and it lifts off, if its standard it will be a brown rubber gasket, you will have to put it on the cam cover first then bolt it on to the head.
hope this helps
