To convert an MPEG or something to a DVD I use WinAVI which takes a couple of hours to convert the file, and it takes near on an hour to burn it to a DVD disc using Nero, so depending on the speed of both your PC and your DVD writer, this is probably about right..... Obviously, the higher specced and faster the PC the quicker it's gonna encode it, and the faster the DVD writer the quicker it's gonna burn it
theres lots of programs out there mate, the new version of nero do's it, theres tmpeg, win avi thats just a few, win avi will convert a avi file into dvd format in about 30 mins thats a full movie..

Could be... To be honest I don't actually know how long it takes
I usually set it up and then leave it for a couple hours till I go back to it. The couple hours probably comes from "backing up" DVD's using DVDShrink, which takes between an hour and 2hrs to rip a DVD and compress it....

You must have a slow computer Thrush!
Seriously though - about 15 minutes to convert a 41/42 minute episode of Lost into DVD format using WinAVI
I'd get version 6.3 though as the newer versions apparently have issues with the encoding (audio and visual glitches).
Cheers,
Andy

I use cucusoft DVD (i think, i'll have to check the exact name) which converts all formats to dvd
As for backing up a dvd, I use Nero to create an Image of the disc using the image recorder, and it saves it to the drive. Does it in about 5 mins.
I split eddie murphy's delerious into 2 files for vcd in about 10 mins
Back in the early day's of doing this, the whole process took about 4 hours, but nowaday's it really shouldn't, unless you have a really slow burner.
Obviously the faster the cpu and the more memory you have available, the quicker it goes
