DVLA vehicle checks.
Are they random??
I just sent off my log book for a 1940 ford to have the engine size changed from 900cc to 5700cc and now they want to inspect the vehicle.
Is this normal for an engine swap?
Or is it just the 'minor' capacity change?

I had the same when i put a cortina back on the road.
Had been off road for 3 years when i got it.
Changed colour, engine etc.
Had been taxed for a week when i got a letter from DVLA. Had to have the vehicle inspected by the plod.
Guy that done the inspection was well happy with it.
Nothing to worry about if you have built it ok uprated brakes etc.
Steve.

Heard of a similar thing where someone wanted to circum-navigate an SVA test on a Cobra kit car. They'd bought a tax exempt Daimler, and changed the engine capacity to that of a Rover , the DVLA phoned the owner of the vehicles and enquired if the ID was being used for a kit car, the owner denied the claim, and the DVLA took it no further. Shame really, it was a shed of a car!
A 1960's Maserati i've worked on had it's private number changed a few months ago, the DVLA at Stanmore requested the car be brought in for an inspection. No probs at all, just checked the numbers matched and the paperwork was in order. Just seems their getting a little more interested in what's going on these days.

The car has not been on the road for years after having the plate removed.
Only problem is it's in bits alll over the SE and doesn't have the chassis number stamped anywhere and the engine has been decked so the number is gone.
Oh, and it has a fiberglass body, (which is not the original one)...............and it doesn't look like the original car.....................and the chassis isn't quite original spec........................
Think I'm in the shit!!!!!!!!!!!!

oddly enough they want me to take it to the VOSA depot in Newbury, this is my local office, the same one that's in charge of my MOT station.
I'm wondering if I can put it off until my VI visits me on his business and has a look at the rolling chassis at the same time, 2 birds, one stone thing.
Hopefully he won't fully know what he's looking at and I don't have to take it to them!
Here's hopeing.
Can't understand why anyone would want to do that.........

Think it's just my bad luck, but they'll have to wait 6 months until I can get access to the garage it's stored in.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
That's me.
I was expecting an inspection, and won't be suprised when I've taxed it if I have to have one.
I think its you car's age that's done it, they seem to want to clamp down on old details being used on new projects if you have read the draft proposals for modded cars.

I think some prat at the NSRA has told them what we're doing and they've clamped down.
Your car is 'slightly' different to mine. (your's always was a Focus!)

i had to take my RS500 for a inspection when i wanted to change the number plate back to the original from a private plate, the previous owner put on it nowt to worry about mate they just check vin and chassis numbers and in my case the engine number to see if its the correct car.
