why do you NEED to use it unencrypted?

easiest way of doing it is to connect onto his PC and take a poke about to try and work out who he is. cookies with addresses in will be your best bet

when you think he is using you system, use your web browser and log onto your router and see the Ip address and HW address which has loged on.

Then go on your PC and in the run Command \\"ipaddress" return
if he has know shares then use \\"ipaddress" c$ and guess the admin password, which is blank in most cases

set your DHCP leases to 30 days and only have it give out 2 IP addresses in the scope (1 for your PC one for your PDA) that way if he connects he wont get an IP address so cant do feck all.

or some routers let you lock it down via MAC addresses, so only m,achines you decide can have access will have access.

more to the point tho...

IF YOU LEAVE AN UNSECURE WIRELESS CONNECTION ACTIVE YOU DESERVE TO HAVE YOUR NEIGHBOURS USE IT!

Does your router give out IP addresses via DHCP? Can you not just disable DHCP on your router, and use static ip addresses on your router + PC / PDA?

Open a command prompt on your PC (start \ run\ cmd ) then type in "ipconfig /all" , make a note of your MAC address (physical address), then go into your router and set it so only this MAC address can use it.

do this as a minimum if you cant secure the network. Change the default password on the router. You should also make sure you run a firewall on your pc.

"Hardware address"......otherwise known as a MAC address.

But yes, I'd lock the router down to MAC addresses, all of which should be pretty easy to find out for your own machines. Then, anyone who tries to connect with a MAC address not on that list doesn't get a wireless-connection (not easily, anyway).

Because once you have found the neighbour's IP address, you simply block that ip address in the router

You could also do the other option, which is what I have done before.

When you connect to someone's network, you have to be on the same workgroup, thus you can browse his shared files / folders. By default, when networking you get a shared documents folder in my computer. All you have to do is put a timed self-extracting file in there, riddled with virus's. Make it look like a windows system file, (just in case he goes in there) and then leave it

By far the simplest route is to use MAC address filtering simple as, that way you don't need the overhead of encryption unless you want it of course!

Should be simple enough to configure via your router, from a cmd line type IPCONFIG /ALL then look for the Physical address which is 6 sets of Alpha/Numeric digits you simple add them into your router and your away

This only restricts wirless devices anything plugged in via an ethernet cable works as is.
