Default worth getting "skinny" slicks?

would it be worth getting slicks in say a 195 profile?

would it really be worth the extra expense of getting different wheels so you could run a 215 tyre?

the reason i ask is i'm thinking of getting a set of slicks but dunno if i should get some wheels aswell

i presume you mean the biggest tyre that will fit your steelies is a 195??

if so i'd just get some lattice wheels with 215's

A 195 slick will fit comfortably on a 6 to 8 inch rim.

Its tread width is 195mm but its total width will be something more like 213mm ... so whats the question Jim ? Im lost ??

If you post up a brand name I can give you an honest opinion of them

the Colway F2 is a remold from what i can gather Used them for the past 5 yrs as trackday tires and found them to be much better than any road tire grip wise and they do last very well before the canvas shows. But they are not as grippy as a proper slick tire, syou pay youre money and takes youre choice!!Regards Micky

cant fault them, a bit harsh compaired to major brands. cheap though lol

Mate they are ok as trackday slicks but as Micky says they aint the real deal when it comes down to it I find you can feel them go 'off ' fairly quickly.

jim, i personally wouldn't overdo the width of a slick compared to the rim... you'd be better off stretching the tyre on to the rim which will help stop it rolling under (and possibly right off the rim) during cornering imo. don't be surprised if you end up with oil problems as well if you really push it. i know one guy who would not even consider running without a dry sump on his slicks (and they're not wide!) and another bloke who trashed a very expensive N/A cossie engine (oil again!) by swapping from normal road tyres to slicks on a track day.

I used to use dunlop maxsport road legal cut slicks, they had an awesome amount of grip for a road tyre, but are also a remould so no good if that bothers you for some reason.

I wouldn't run them on a wheel barrow sorry

They squirm and roll about on corners, have very little grip, and lost me personally about 15-20 seconds per lap of a 2.5 mile circuit.

If your new to tyres and the world of slicks then they are just a small step above a cheap road tyre. Ideal for the beginner or for tight buget cars I suppose.

They should provide you with plenty fun, but you will NEVER win anything on them

Just my view
