DONE SOMETHING STUPID!!! THINK I JUST BOUGHT A STOLEN CAR!!!
been very stupid, Just bought a RS2000 this afternoon didn't get log book!
he told me he had sent it off as he only had the car a month as he took it as part ex. on a scooby but gave me the little slip that the new owner had to keep (blank, he dhadn't filled it in).
it was on ebay but didn't sell so I emailed him, said i could have it for a grand, because he was in Scunthorpe and I was in bradford he said he would bring it it me. if i didn't buy it i just had to give him some petrol money. met in a car park, give him money, didn't get a receipt!
Now he's not replying to me phone calls n texts.
I got the service book (full) and all the that sort of stuff, 1 key and alarm fob. previous MOT's tax and current MOT and I
I dont have his a address, all I go is Mobile Number, Email Address and Name.
What can I do to find out if I've been done? or get hold of the logbook?
ARRGGGHHH any help please lads???

Hope you haven't.
All the things peeps get told about buying a car and you have not done anyone of them.
Why the fuck did you hand the money over.
Hope it's not stolen though, lot of money to give away.
Dave.

Hpi check is the only way. You should probably have done the check before you bought it though and as for the receipt, if he didn't give you one you should have made one up mate, even if it's on a napkin. I never buy or sell a car without a receipt. Stops them selling it to you then reporting it stolen!!!! All sounds a bit dodgy to me hun.

if u go to the post office in the morning they can give u a form so that u can apply for the log book in ur name . it takes a while because once dvla recieve ur form they then write to the owner asking him to confirm he is no longer the owner and once they get his reply they will then issue a new log book to u. ive looked at a car i thought was dodgy before so i went to the old bill station and ask if it was nicked by giving them the reg. the only problem in doing this is, if its nicked the old bill will ask u where u saw this car and the last thing u want to do is tell them its round ur house.just give them the geezers mobile number and say u saw it outside the local mcdonalds.hope its legit mate or i dont know what i would do. if its nicked just think of the poor bloke its been nicked from??? good luck (u could also hpi it they will tell u if its stolen or if it has any police interest???)

he might not be answering his phone because there might be something wrong with it and he doesnt want no come backs or sometimes thy just say they havent got the logbook to hide how many owners it has had

If you go to the cop shop and it is a Hot hatch (Excuse the pun) your be in the shit and carless. However if you get it HPI'ed and some thing is wrong you can then decide the best action!
Shop around for the HPI it is a worth while cost.

to be honest i think your over paniking, if you got paperwork, mots and history etc i wouldnt panic so much, like matey says above hes prob not answering calls cause thinks your phoneing up for a winge
walk into the police station state you just bought a car with no logbok etc and are suspicious, give thm the reg and chassis i net your arse they will check it out for ya, i dont it in the past when i used to collect scrap cars to weigh in etc
dont panic no logbook doesnt allways mean stolen

shit!!!! looks like the person who was selling the sock must have been a mate, cos he was also the highest bidder on the car
me mates gonna put HPI on his card for me, but that link above doesn't work
HPI anywhere else for £20?

Check his mates feedback
Nearly all auctions are for cars.
Sounds like you bought off a trader mate, prob not answering his phone cos he thinks you are calling to complain about the car.
Log book does not prove legal ownership anyway.
Personally I'd just apply for a new log book

lol you ought to write a "things not to do when buying a car" book, might cover the fine for handling stolen goods
but seriously, i hope it turns out to be good, would be a right bastard to find out you had a nicked motor only thing I could suggest is to get a mate to buy somthing off him, and arrange to meet him to collect it so you can collar him and if it turns out to be dodgy

ha yeah, learnt me lesson this time! , been in touch with DVLA, said its not stolen!, and spoke to guy who sold me it now, he said if i give him address he'll forward the V5 on when it comes back,
looking better now, but something still seems dodgey bout it
