Default picture taking probs...any help ??

im trying to take a picture of my mums ring as she wants to sell it but how ever i do it , it keeps coming out blurred???? my camera is 4meg pixel and it got a button that you flick for landscape shot or portrait ?????? so if im taking a pic of something in the distance i have it on one setting and if its up close i flick the button the other way. ive tryed both settings, ive tryed zooming in, zooming out etc but its still crap. just blurry . do i need a better camera to take this kind of close up image????

Take a number of pictures from a varying distance, you might find the closest you can actually get to the ring is something like 4 inches, which may not make it look big on the picture, but with a 4mp camera, you will be able to crop the picture (remove the stuff you don't want on the sides) and end up with a pretty good picture still.

Cropping can be done in image editing software such as Photoshop or Photoimpact mate.

With mine, it actually turns out better if I take the flash off (assuming surrounding light is reasonable). Set it to a high resolution then you have plenty to play with when you put it in the software.
