Default Cat C write off.................

I've seen a decent motor I quite fancy but its a cat c write off. I know what cat c means but is there anything else I should know regarding getting it insured and proof the repairs have been carried out correctly?

Whats V car??

Don't buy it you will regret it, even if a cat C is repaired correctly it is still worth about 40% less than trade price.

if you buy cheap you sell cheap, no loss really.

many CAT C cars are perfectly fine to buy, i've considered it loads of times. i had a torqouise calibra se that was pretty good ( apart from having the wrong engine, should have been an 8 valve but had a C20XE lump )

no major worries IMO

Cat C means it's a damage repairable that's had the log book withheld subject to an inspection before it's allowed back on the road I think.

V Car is the insurance register that all (recorded) accident damaged cars are listed on.

My car was Cat C written off yesterday, ive bought it back and gonna repair it but at the end of the day my car isnt worth fortunes anyway and by the time i sell it it will be worthless.

Other way around I think

Cat A - FUCKED (burnt out etc)

Cat B - Fucked, can never go back on the road (heavy crash, structural damage etc)

Cat C - Damaged, beyond economical repair, log book withheld, needs inspection before it can go back on the road.

Cat D - Damaged, beyond economic repair.

That's it I think, only thing I'm not sure on is the logbook thing with cat C.

so a cat c and d are total write offs yes?

the insurance has paid the value of the vehicle??

so what would happen if you crashed the car and wrote it off again?

My escort cosworth was Cat C (as they couldn't get the panels needed to repair it) The log book is sent back to the dvla until its repaired and then inspected. Then i get the log book back

Cost me 20% of the insurance to get the car back so well worth repairing. i'll have a cheap escos and money in the bank

Cheers folks. Its not a massively expensive car anyway but if I do get it I should save £1500+ compaired to similar models.

Does anyone know if insurance is more expensive?

cat c and cat d is when when its cheaper to payout than repair a car ive done a few but cat c u will have to take the car to a vosa centre to have it inspected b4 u can get a new logbook. the check is just to make sure u are trying to register the same car and not a stolen car.
