who has floor tiles in there front room here ????
need some help and ideas if possable
so far we have decided to go tiled floor through out the down stairs as we like it BUT and heres a big BUT
we aint paying 500 quid for under floor heating,,,,,,,, i far too tight for that
so i was thinking about tiling the outside and i the center having a carpet in a location where a rug would go
has anyone done this and whats the result
or would it look pants
i done it in my parents front room with laminate and carpet in the centre and it looked good and still gave the general nice look of laminate and the carpet cause its only 2 metres by 2 metres is easier to just bin than a whole carpet when i decide to rebuild another engine in the front room
so has anyone tried this and what did you use for the edging so the carpet looked tidy still

Why do a job and not do it right? If your gonna tile the whole floor then it needs heating...simple. The heating costs 500 quid so allow that in your overall budget and stop singleing it out as a hinderance when it is needed!
Its like building a 500bhp cossie engine and then using a STD rst intercooler on it

i cant have laminate as the floor is too slippy and its sooooo been done many times,,,,,,, my first flat had laminate flooring
cant have carpet as we got a small flat so we need light colours to give the effect of space, we got a nice carpet that we have had for a year,,,,,,,, infact all the carpets downstairs are fucked due to when we had our boiler fitted and me bringing in car parts and making a mess ( dont say dont bring parts home,,,,,,,, its my house and so i have a right to make a mess as i pay for the damages )
tiled flooring is a GREAT approach imo, looks good, hard wearing BUT its coldish compared to carpet
im just not sure if i should just tile the lot and cry about the mistake ive made by not heating it OR do the carpet centre so all the beer we spill wont stain the carpet and we can still do it doggy when watching top gear and not hurt knees,,,,,,,, just burn em alittle
heated flooring IS the best option but at 500 quid per room plus 200 for the hallway and it dont actually keep the rooms warm but just takes the chill of the tiles
not like its gonna gain any value to the flat ( like i give a shite about that anyway )
so help me please

500 quid for heated flooring is fine but 12 months ago we fitted a twin boiler thingy to our flat that allows us to have hot water or central heating or both as our last one never done that aswell as fitted thermostats to all of our rads to help reduce our heating costs and our gas bill is STILL higher than our electric bill and all we use it for it hot water and central heating,,,,,,,, everything we cook with is electric
im not inot house proud gadgets that are loads of money when its a relative simple idea tbh
dont get me wrong o do feel its needed BUT 700 quid ontop of everything else is loads of cash,,,,,,,,, rememeber ive got 3 cars to run too

Sounds like ya minds made up then Bal, Another wasted topic
Personally i do the job right, and it would get underfloor heating! My bathroom has pipe undertile heating as i wasnt getting out of the bath in winter and getting cold feet for the sake of a few quid

Absolute Nero Granite Tiles (Ł200 worth!!!) with Grey Carpet. It is spot on and we simply put Gripper-rod around the edge of the tiles, then the carpet went down. No edging.
We did it purely because we wanted something a little different. Also, we planned to put a Coffee table on the tiled area, but like the look of the tiles so much that the Coffee table sits elsewhere!!

I agree with Mike. Have you really thought it thru tho Bal, as its a lot of money to shell out and not be happy. Even with the radiators on, and the floor heating turned on, youre never going to get the cosy feeling in the room. Its the same in our Dining kitchen, we have wood flooring and its just not the same as carpet for that cosyness. Does its job in there but i would not have anything but a good carpet in the living room!

lee we bought carpet for our front room for the nice feeling ect, problem isim not compatible with it
we have a small flat so we need light colours to make it appear larger than it is
the problem is im always fucking about with something dirty and my garage is about 2 miles away near where my parents live so i never actually get bothered to go there
i do LOADS of stuff in my flat i shouldnt but i do as its part of me so to speak
ive stripped a engine in my front room, got loads of car spares in my bedroom such as 2 erst heads ive practiced porting, 1 cossie cloth trim ( complete ) 1+1/2COMPLEATE COSSIE ENGINE IN BITS,,,,, thats 4 cams, 1 head, 1 block 2 cranks 8 rods 6 pistons, 2 turbos ( t34 and t3) everthing from the engine bay actually including the bling and rad/cooler, saph cossie bootlid with rouse spoiler,,,,,,, that i painted in my bathroom
i know i shouldnt but i like working from home and tbh my little girl makes more mess than i do,,,,,,,, potty training for a start is interesting
so we plan to tile the whole down stairs so it can be light colours and still give the effect of space,,,,,, down side is you cant chill on the floor BUT ive got a cabin chain, footstool, 3 seater sofa and 3 seater sofa aswell as my little girls mini sofa and we NEVER have guests if i can help is so we can chill on the sofa,,,,,,,,, infact i always use my cabin chair for chilling ect as i watch tv and browse on the pc all the time anway,,,, its my own chair that nobody uses
but i do agree with what your saying but the disadvantage of comfy floors to lie on is out weighed by the fact that im always covered in greese and dirt and so what happens is we have guests who see nothing but stains on the carpet,,,,,,,,,,,,, looks far more worse imo
im just too tight to buy underfloor heating but the old man is flush and he offered and when i refused he sugested my birthday so its not as bad as taking money off him

Seriously I probably wouldnt with a kid as young as yours (what is she 2?). Unless you are going to have mats which are slippery and would defeat the purpose of having tiles if you cant see them. Maybe hold off for a few years by which time you would have the $$ to get the heating as well.

Its surprising how photo's can paint an odd picture. When we chose the decor for that room, the main thing we wanted to stay away from is old dated styles and we are really pleased with the results.
I personally DONT do Laminate. If I were going to have a 'Wood' floor, it would be 'Wood'.
The room is painted 2 contrasting shades of grey and the black leather sofa is a very modern style.
I guess you have to see it in real life!
Anyway, Ginge, the join between the Carpet and the Tiles is faultless. They are at identical heights. My main worry was that if the tiles ended up high, that when you vacuum the carpet that you might knock the corners off the tiles or break the hoover. Infact it couldn't have ended up better. That's careful planning for you!!! I will take a close-up photo later to show you.
