Default metal coatings for shells

iv found a place that can accid dip a shell but i thought once its done i might be able to get it treated with some thing that will stop the rust maybe galvinised does any one know some one that does this at all

I believe they dip them in phosphoric(sp) acid this give them some protection much like the gunmetal type finish on a Bacho adjustable spanner.

so the little bits that you will never be able to paint wont rust anyway ?

Galvanising would add loads of weight to your shell and would cost a fortune I think. Don't quote me on that though.

phosphating is only a temporary protection against corrosion, ie: it holds it at bay till you prime and paint. however it will not last long and you cannot leave it untreated.

thats to come to my house with a curtain sider lorry load it in there take it to be dipped , then put it in primer after dipping and return it to my house in the back of the lorry so it doesnt get wet

Phosphate electrocoating does last for years and doesn't need painting over - look under the bonnets of a lot of modern cars and they're not painted after e-coat dip.

I have had my shell dipped by these people

http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/

They can arrange for the shell to be dipped afterwards in either e-coat or a weld through.
