Default Password protected "my documents" folder. Can..

you get into them? got an old HDD here, and the windows install is knackered on it so i cant log in to get some old files, so have put it into my new computer, and tried to access the "my documents" folder, and it says "Access is denied". Is there any way i can get into that folder at all?

Cheers

If you are an admin you should be able to "take ownership" of the folder and then propogate new permissions to the sub folders.

Boxxer - I just did but all i found were programmes that were trials and wouldn't lock folders without you paying for the software

I only wanna lock my porn folder Well, that and a folder I keep a few bits n bobs in I'd rather keep private/don't want to be acidentally deleted etc...

I just downloaded one which hides them, but I don't want to hide the folder, I just want to apply a password lock to it, so if you double the folder it asks for a password before letting look inside.....

Just tried another that let me lock a folder, and when I double clicked it it asked me for a password - great!

Then when I entered the password it said "FOLDER SUCCESSFULLY UNLOCKED" and that was that.

But it left the folder unlocked and refused to lock it again

Fucking pointless programme

You need to activate the advanced security and sharing options.

tools -> folder options -> View -> uncheck Use Simple File Sharing

Change the permissions of the administrator profile and don't forget to click on the tick box to transfer these settings to all the subfolders and files.

Right click on the folder you want to access then...

Security -> Advanced -> Owner tab and change it to your administrator profile.

Cheers,

Andy

Right thats three programmes downloaded and installed now, and nothing has worked.....

First one doesn't lock with password, just hides them

Second one locks once, then when you unlock it you can't lock it again

Last one just completely fucked my PC up and crashed it twice

does ANYONE know of a simple password protect programme that is free to use/run and all you have to do is set a password for a folder and everytime you try to open it it asks for a password?????? DOing my head in now
