Did the car have any anti-freeze in it or only water ?? Sounds like it's just rust and sludge built up over the years.

Best bet is to back flush the radiator and re-fill with decent anti-freeze to the correct strength and then keep an eye on temps and stuff as it may have knackered the water pump.

99.99% sure it is the head gasket mate

same thing happened on my mums 106 (same car) as the headgasket goes, the goo forms in the rad. then you see it when you take the cap off

chances are you may need a new rad too as ours did.

my advice is to flush the radiator and cooling system fully, then refill go for a drive and see if it sludges up any more

does the car overheat at all?

She tried to tow your ERST in a 1ltr Saxo?

I'm not surprised she smelt burning to be honest mate, I don't think the little shopping trolley is up to that kind of load!

Dunno but if you keep on making up words like exactually, you might find someone out there willing to give you a discount.
