Also part of the problem Chip is they like to run way over 250bhp per litre with 8.6:1 compression on road engines.
So need race fuel to not det their tits off under big loads or big boost.

And think lowering the compression is a dirty word and will ruin the cars drivability and wont make any power, and other witchcraft.

So instead use mega duration cams and oversize turbos with huge exhaust housings running lowish boost to help compensate for the high compression, making the cars have no power under 5k, thus ruining the cars drivability

<- real tears

Maybe they should have a tank of each fuel and then they could have mappable fuel pump control to mix it "live" to the correct mixture to avoid problems

That of course all totally ignores the fact that you are trying to solve two totally seperate problems though, ie both the timing and the fuelling being wrong.
Not entirely sure why that was aimed at me (I'm not here to represent a particular car, website or a garage), but my car was mapped on pump super unleaded, that's all I put in it, that's all I am ever going to put in it. I don't want a road car that needs to use race fuel.

My point was that I could see some validity in people choosing to use a bit of extra det resistance as an extra safety margin. I wasn't opining on the effectiveness of doing so.

I'm not sure what it has to do with "skyline tuning" either. It's pretty pathetic that people want to be so divisive about it in any case - I'm interested in cars, full stop (which is why I'm looking on here). One of the cars I own at the moment, and like, happens to be a Skyline GT-R - the next one I buy most likely won't be.

I make my own mind up on the basis of my own judgment as to where and how it's built and looked after, and I know (unlike some) the limits of my knowledge and experience.

Re the compression issue - I have an opinion based upon what I have seen and read, but I don't pretend to know everything about it (again, unlike some). However, I am interested to look and learn, which is why I'm looking forward to seeing how Steve's car performs when (if ) it's finally running.

Maybe I should just buy an old Sierra and get with the real cutting-edge tuning gurus

Phil, nothing was aimed at you specifically mate, PLEASE dont take it personally, it was just that comment you made about "insurance" that started me off about people with those sort of views like "chuck in a bit higher octane fuel and it will be alright" as opposed to remapping it.

also, in time you will learn on here that using the name "Phil" isnt a great start to getting taken seriously on here

Seriously though, welcome to the forum and you sound like you are interested in learning which is what most of us are here for.

For the record though your comment about tuning gurus and cossies is a LOT more accurate than you realise, most of the best tuners in the country have a lot to do with tuning cossies, including people you may have heard of through the world of jap cars like Mark Shead.

Hey guy's and girls (if any,, apart from the wife's in the background saying are you on that that computer again).

A friend told me about this thread. I've read it now and would like to say thanks for the nice words about me and my car.

Anyhow, I made a compilation video of my previous and present cars and my Escort is on there of course.Im sorry there is not more Escort footage, but back in the days I did not have a camera myself

Go to www.kismo.dk then the movie section and choose the compilation video. Please right click and save, its aprx 65mb so it NOT 56K friendly.

Ive also made a previous car section with some more pics and some details.

See ya

F1 engines this year will see a genuine 20,000rpm - and any tweaks that can be made on the fuelling to see the same power with less fuel consumption are ideal - so run them as lean as we can but not to the point of risk
