best one is the phase 2.. has a brush alluminium surround on the centre console and has a six speed box. the early ones dont have any problems but are only a 5speed and interior doesnt look half as nice.. phase 3 is the very latest ones and IMO theyve ruined the looks with loads of bits of pointless chrome all over it and make it look like a ghia model now
have a look on www.stownersclub.com plenty of owners on their who can tell you of things to look out for and also their is some for sale i believe

I drive an ST220 as a company car. Its a very nice drive, not particularly quick but goes round corners well.
Its comfy with enough toys to keep you happy. Make sure you get the six speed one as the interior is better.
They are thirsty though, if you drive it hard expect around 15 to the gallon (town driving).
The one I use has now got 40,000 on it and I would have to say the gearbox is a weak point, its been repaired more times than I care to mention.
Would I buy one for myself if I did not have the works one to play in?
On balance, yes I would.
