Car Spraying
After seeing how good a job damo did on his car im thinking about doing my own car and giving it a new lease of life. Obviously ive been reading quite a bit about it etc etc and i want to try it out for myself. obviously im gonna start and do something small first to get used to what to do then go onto the car....
Anyone any tips?
Also i need to purchase the equipment etc, whats a good make of spray gun etc? where do i get them?

For gun choice, IMO Devilbiss Gti's are the dogs bollocks!
But you can pick up guns quite cheap, Try ( www.ebay.com ) All depends how much spraying your going to do and how much your budget is for one...
You'll need a compressor obvioulsy for the air pressuse,
Somewhere decent you can convert to a spray booth ( with decent ventilation),
A facial mask as the isocyanates in paint is very bad for your health
(Can cause cancer, worst case scenario)
then you'll need supplies like masking tape/line tape, paper, sand paper, sanding discs,DA sander, air lines, tack rags, blow gun off the top of my head
hth
Will see what Damo has to say, As im still hungover

Even with all the top notch stuff you just cannot go out and spray your car.
These are skilled peolpe that have taken months years to get it right.
Also its a lot to pay out if you keep on making mistakes,if you don't like the finish etc...
Be better of paying someone to do a good job on it first time.

Obviously im not going to just jump straight in and start prepping and spraying my car, im gonna take a long time and do a load of test pieces first...
I know i could take it somewhere else and they would do a superb job, but there is bound to be self satisfaction doing it yourself...

You'll need a decent degreasing liquid, White sprit is ok, but in work we use something stronger, not sure if its for sale to public tho ...
Best way to test if the metal is free of grease, is to get a hose pipe and run water from the top down and see if the water seperates
If it does, its still greasy

Erm that im not sure on,I'll have a look around, bare with me
As for the compressor, you'll need it to run about 130psi..
For Prepping- I use a DA @ 120psi with 180 grade stickets, then wet flat (600/400 grade) by hand to smooth the prep
Spraying- pressure set to 40psi
Did you see the link above? ^^

skiman....
pls don't even think about spraying the car yourself.
just pay someone to do it. it'll prob work out the same price by the time you buy compressor ect.
you will ruin the car.
please chum
