Considering im only spraying a front bumper and possibly a bonnet i dont need that much room, and the garage i have has more than enough space to spray a bonnet and a bumper. If all fails, up to pearsons or alex's.

Ok mate im not going to advise you how to paint as there are painters who have replied with that info!

All i can say is have a go! Take ya time and make sure its prepped well. Only do small jobs until the technique is mastered. I have been hobbie painting now for about 10 years, and can blend a repair into the car un-noticable. I have resprayed a few panels for people to excellent stds, but a full car is a totally different league. It is much harder imo. Its kinda like building a little brick BBQ diy...making a good job, then trying to build ya own house... lol!

I have recently resprayed my work van. It is suitable for the van, most is an excellent finish, little parts like the rear doors a bit 'peely' but my main problem was space, extraction and tools. My compressor cant keep up etc..

So as i say, do small jobs...bumpers etc but i wouldnt do a whole car...unless its just me thats still wank

I did my s2 engine bay last year!

from

to

And made a good job, but like i say when ya go whole hog on a full car it gets a bit hard!

I dont know where everyone is saying about a full respray, i dont want to do a full respray, all i want is the front bumper and maybe the bonnet too, but i would just like to do it myself. and not pay someone else to do it.

I know mate, but you may do a small bit, notice you do a good job and get carried away..... it happens

Go fot it you wont regret it. As stated I did my bumpers and it was relatively easy.

GEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!! u work with paints and stuff then mate?!?!

U mean i got something right?!?!?! Amazing what u can copy and paste off the net these days

Nah i really do know what im talkin about honest just stuff ive learnt over the last couple years at college and at mclaren

and Lee beleive it or not full resprays arnt that hard!!! just the extra time it takes 2 prep and spray thats anoying, sometimes blending colours/panels etc can be a real pain in the arse!!!!

And tbh u dont have to go spend silly money on a devilbiss gti or a sata gun, you can still get good finishes with cheaper guns

Althou personally i prefer using Gti's

Ive seen ppl get mint finishes in a chicken shed for a booth, most of it comes 2 the person doin it

Rad - 95% of etch primers have alot of cromate in (Around 15% volume). There are one or two products in the CT line that are non cromated versions, this is for regulation as we have to offer a choice of cromated or non cromated Epoxy/Etch primers by law.

Many customers choose the cromated version as it has double life expectancy of a non cromated one!

Tone - PPG fella....They own all the Nexa/ICI Autocolor/Max Meyer/Deltron lines

Surprsingly even though i make the stuff all day long i'm not allowed to buy it

I wanted some to touch up my bumper with some and wasn't allowed to purchase any.... I really didn't know what to say...I was rather shocked I would probably know much much more about the health/physical risks and using of the paint than many of the sprayers that use it!

Security is very tight and you get searched going in/out everyday...So i wasn't risking my 25K+ job for a few litres of decent paint...

And Rad has asked before yes

Nah smit, at college we used Spies Hecker and at Mclaren we only use dupoooo sorry dupont

Not sure what the base is ive got as its thru one of the contractors mates at work but Ł20 a litre is pretty resonable

the laquer is 190-596 MS laquer, it any good?! Thought i was getting HS laquer but thats what he gave me and cant change it now so.

Nah cant get a disc mate soz, they pay pretty much retail at work the nobs

But if u look in ebay at foreign suppliers theres a germany company doin GTis new for Ł170 and their limited colours!!!

Might get a couple of them and sell a couple of my older ones at some point

The P190-596 MS Laquer is fine Tony keep with that... a HM line laquer is a touch better but more expensive i think.....It really depends where you want to stop spending the money...

We have had Japs from Toyota around the plant for the last 2 months as they were looking to have strike a deal with them to supply their new factory in Japan (We completed the deal just before December 10th ) So we have won the right to supply 25,000 litres of HS+MS Hardener to them a MONTH

They were very thorough though i gotta admit...following all the load procedure/testing/appilcation of the stuff.....After a few alterations to a few recipes they laid out a deal

Hardener is dodgy stuff to make......If 0.1% of water gets in the can it gels solid within 48 hours..... They add a ingrediant called TI (Titanium Indrioxde) this is shit is lethal Usually hardener is made in 8000 litres batchs, about 50KG of TI is added about 2 hours before filling. It's a water chaser which evaporates water on contact. Somethimes in the vessal the product as reach tempuratures of nearly 80oC which is very very hot.... When complete and the water has been evaporated (if any) it cools down very quickly...Then it's filled through our filling machine when the tempurature has dropped below 30oC (As the vessal is externally water cooled) takes about 10 mins to cool if the chiller water is on the cold setting...

hope you enjoyed reading
