Default what makes these valves differant colours?



as said what makes the differant colours on these valves? just to point out that it does run perfect

the one where they both black looks oily to me, like the ring has gone or summat

cyl 3 is burning oil....

or is mis firing and runing very rich.

Is it an oily residue or a powdery one?

this pic was took when my head gasket had gone , but thers deff too much oil on the third cylinder, but as said she runs absolutly perfect for over 120,000

hi chris, this was taken when the head gasket went a few months back group A head gasket on now from m.s.d , and new stage 1 organic clutch as fitted by me and since you had it iv sorted a good second hand rad out and thats now fitted , so its flying mate, dont no why that valve is so bad cus to look at it it shouldent run very well, but it does

wonder if stem seal is stiff/leaking which is why occasional m,isfire you had on cold start up causing oil on the valve


cud be i recon as rest of head/piston crowns look spot on

Looks to be burning really well, dont worry too much pal. Often a leaky injector will give that damp look, but it doesnt look like oil contamination to me, at least not from afar...

hi stu, since coming down to m.s.d and having the evo chip and set plus kenny had to put a new dizzy on , it runs absolutly fine

chris, its a little lesson i was learnt by an american mechanic of all people, he did the cam belt on a rover 218sld i had and said to always turn the engine over 3 full cycles by hand after fitting a new cam belt , thus if you feel any resistant to stop and check everything and thats what happend so thank fuck i took notice of him as i can now set the cam belt up prity quick
the only thing i wud like to learn is how to set the venier up
mine runs 7dg advance

Why rebuild it with a "grpA" headgasket?

Wouldnt a ford one of been sufficient?
