Default working out compression ratio...

right I'm having no luck finding out the compression ratio of my engine so I might end up having to work it out myself...

What do you need to do this? The engine is built and running but I have access to a piston that came out of it originally (this is the second set due to the previous owner being boost happy lol) so I can get the piston size from it...

Can't do it mate, as u need to measure the deck height, and the combustion chamber volume.

Agree with rick, not possible without stripping the engine.

you only need to whip the head off, CC it, measure the deckheight, and pop it back together.
Cost you a bit for new gasket + bolts, but hardly the end of the world, and will only take an afternoon as head doesnt need skimming in those circumstances. (although getting it checked for flatness while off is a good idea of course)

I've only just got it running and its taken me months to get it to this state, I'm not pulling it apart again lol

My last hope is Torque Developments (where the engine came from), I'll see if they can shed any light on it 2moro

Well whoever built it should still have all these figures written down if you give them the serial number off the engine.

does it actually matter at this stage?

if you assume standard comp if a 1600 and get it set up to its optimum then surely this will highlight whether the compression is too high for the intended boost and have to be backed off... regardless of the comp ratio?

i.e. if you are at a level of tune that the exact compression ratio is significant then Ł100 or so for bits to take off and measure can't be too bad can it?

One of my favourite quotes:

Well done on making the effort Wes
