you only need to whip the head off, CC it, measure the deckheight, and pop it back together.
Cost you a bit for new gasket + bolts, but hardly the end of the world, and will only take an afternoon as head doesnt need skimming in those circumstances. (although getting it checked for flatness while off is a good idea of course)
