i sold me M3 last weekend and am after something round the £3-£3.5k figure. want something 170 bhp + . ive had 50 cars now so ive tried most and just get bored. RS 2000 and a 16v calibras etc just seem too slow . i drove a gti6 ages ago and thought that seemed quite nippy and a vr6 so im thinking one of these.
what do you lot think ........ either of these or anything else spring to mind?????
got to have 4 seats cos ive got 2 kids so that rules out mr2's.

I had a VR6 for that money you'd get a good one, a mate of mine has had a GTi6 for the less time than I had my Vr6- both similar- low miles, standard and very well cared for.
I had no probs at all
He has the standard 306 door electric probs, engine rebuild and now gearbox.
Incidently- I sold my VR6 after 3 months so going on that- 306

The Golf VR6 has always struck me as a pretty boring car IMO, no I've never driven one, but a 12 valve V6 in a pretty bloated and heavy Golf? With FWD too??
Not my cuppa tea mate. A GTI-6 though sounds more fun, not great 0-60 but six gears and supposed to have great handling, I wouldn't mind owning one for a while.

I had a VR6 Hi-Line and a 306 GTi-6 earlier this year.
The VR-6 is not a sporty hot hatch i its a big soft tourer that will roll wallow and understeer if you start cornering quickley.
Lovely smooth engine though, good build, spec and engine sound all makes it nice a nice car but not a good hander.
Gti-6 brilliant to drive, much much more fun than a VR6 Golf, only let down by its poor steering (low geered and terrible lock to lock).
I'd take a 306 GTi-6 over a VR-6.

couple of my mates have got these cars and i can say i hanetly prefer the 306 by a mile!
for a standard car, the 306 in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th on a motorway or JC is bloody awesome! alot of torque
Dunc
