Megasquirt V3
I am thinking about buying the above. my engine will be turboed at some point but not now. looking at Megasuirt it seems nice and simple I can get rid of my MAF and still use my edis 6 so it seems great so I can mess about with mapping in N/A mode.
why is it so cheap compaired to other systems? it seems have the same features as systems 5 times the price.

Its cheap because its enthusiast designed and built so no one is making lots of money on it and because no support has to be present for it that costs money cause its enthusiast supported as well.
Its a very good idea when cost is an option, but be careful which one you end up with, some of the early ones were an 8*8 map and even if you REALLY know what you are doing with setting load site break points you are going to struggle with only 8 points!
I dont know enough about them to tell you which ones have which map though, i would imagine that the V3 is ok though.

the cost built up
which are very good
If you have EDIS, then you are half way there. Assuming its MAP based
>EEC, then a V2.2 has all you need on it.

Megasquirt is great. Go for it. I find using the relay board makes wiring alot easier.
The msefi forum is very helpful and they will be able to solve any probs you come up with.

go for it johnny and let us all know how you get on.
i was thinking of going that route with my v6 4x4 estate, until i needed the sheel for my cossie bits and got rid of the boat anchor.
now thinking of junking the carb from my 1.1 fiesta and converting it to efi and maybe playing around with the ms system.

Ive been considering megasquirt aswell for my na engine but thing i have no mapping experience at all. I know whats involved and im very good with computers/programs etc as im a programmer but i wouldnt wanna blow my expensive engine up. So not sure whether its worth it.
Is it gonna be really easy for me to kill my engine if i fuck it up?
Also i take it your best off hooking up a wind band lambda to properly map it .

Yes, you do really require a wideband for tuning.
A n/a engine is a good place to start learning as it won't melt itself so quickly if you do get it badly wrong.

Not THE british dealer as there is no such thing.
Have dealt with bill before. Very genuine trader. Has supplied a large amount of the westfield/kitcar market.

That turbosport thread is refering to megajolt which is a seperate ignition only system. Not megasquirt.
I have used megajolt before as well and had no problems with it.
See next months Fast Ford for a feature on a white 3dr with a pinto i fitted it to.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. The v3 you are talking about is only the board revision and therefore has the same potential as the earlier v2.2 board. You also don't have to worry about the old 8x8 map versions because it's a question of only an old software version. You can update it in a minute from the web without a programming device. The real choice is whether you want the MS-I or the MS-II processor. The MS-I has more feathers developped to it and therefore has all the whistles and bells, but it is limited by the older assembler programmed 8-bit processor. MS-II has a much better processor but is only starting it's evolution and therefore doesn't do much more than controlling the injection and ignition, yet.

Jesse, while we are on the subject of megasquirt. What have you found is the best method for getting your accel enrichments right with the accel wizard?
What figures do you use in the v/s colum?

Garage19:
for ~380cc injectors in a 1.6CVH with efi throttle housing and potentiometer:
100%
MAP based
cold accel multiplicator 130%
accel time 0.5s
0.781 v/s threshold
2 v/s -> 0.1ms
4 v/s -> 1.5ms
8v/s -> 2.5ms
15v/s -> 5.0ms
These values are not in any way finetuned as I haven't found them critical or overly important.

Very underestimated peice of kit, those who know a bit about engine management/mapping see its potential for project engines and enhancing one's learning.
Often mocked by chequebook racers as its "cheap" "diy" etc
I'll be shortly assembling a MSV3 (used with EDIS), to have a play with
