When I was at Uni, I used it pretty much everyday to drive to campus, and had no problems to speak of at all.

not a YB, but similar:

1) fuel
2) traction (especially in this weather)
3) comfort (suspension aint exactly comfy!)
4) Cleanliness (outside looks dirty, inside fills up with rubbish where i cant be arsed to clean it)
5) Tyres (it goes through Eagle F1s like nobody's business... costs fortune!)
6) Scared of crashing (soooo easy to have an accident in rush hour in london, one day someone will hit me)

Which EVO?

That's important as things like diff servicing intervals are fairly short, so as an everyday car piling on the miles, they could be costly.....

A good cossie will NOT give you problems. Its Ford Sierra, nothing more, reps used em for millions of miles. The only difference is the engine and loom and they, once running correctly, are fine. Take professional advice, do as suggested, and enjoy the trouble free miles.

Ignore advice at your peril, old cars require a certain no bullshit approach to remain reliable and that advice can be expensive. Its the little things that count, and lots of em

Heatshields for example.... an annoying yet functional SAFETY item...

Since I started my own business in 1999 I've ran cossies of various types and in varying degrees of tune from standard to Stage III

I usually do about 20,000 miles in them and then sell them on so I dont loose too much on them.

As Stu has said, regular servicing and sensible maintenance will ensure trouble free motoring.

Simple things like letting it come up to temprature before booting it, letting it idle for a while after a run before turning it off.

Like anything, look after it and it will look after you..... abuse it... and loose it.

On a run my 3 Door returns over 30 to the gallon, my Stage III Escort was like that too, as was my standard 4x4 Saph.

As for the 500... that was a little too heavy on fuel to use for short runs...

But hey... as Spadge once said to me... why preserve the car for the next owner to get the benefit from your dilligance...

Just enjoy it !

As you said to me once, the main problem with old Cossies and RST's is that the owners disregard routine maintinence because they don't wanna spend any money on their cars. And when they do wanna spend money they want to spend it on go faster bits and bobs rather than replacing warn out parts that they actually NEED to!

A quote from a recent topic by me, to give you some idea of the mileage i do in mine.

And maybe this topic will give you an idea..
https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=136923

Do these quotes or topics suggest im worried about them breaking down? No. Thankfully, i dont suffer from the famous Rs Paranoia as i know its just nuts, bolts and wires.

Thats not to say a driveshaft or prop cant give you a problem or even a gearbox, but i have to say, when your hundreds of miles from home, if you drive like a twat you are asking for trouble anyway, in any performance car. **

Anyone who mentions me doing 21laps of the ring in my shonky old saff gets a 24hr ban

I remember reading you say summit similar in one of the ford mags Stu a while back, ya spot on about people cutting corners mostly young people like myself who arent as loaded as people like Porkie,Doug Stirling and the likes etc...
I think its just that the young ones want to see the best possible return for there money,I know thats what I was like with mine, when it came down to either spending a grand on a live mapping and whatever or nice shiny shields etc I used to buy the things people would notice

i wouldnt say i use mine everyday anymore but i do use it a hell of a lot plus i do croft each year, would love to do more track days but then i think i would start to see problems seeing as its done 103k miles now

cant fault it, its running shit hot at the mo and has a healthy appetite for spark plugs lol

gonna need some money in the future tho cos of that dodgy noise coming from somewhere

if driven properly ie not like a twat all the time they are fine everyday cars

Oh you mean that 2 second go slow you had when you got stuck behind someone

pmsl @ the 21 laps of the ring you know what I drive like Stu, no matter where in the country I am, my problem is, all the small parts i can afford, like heatsheilds but if gearbox or anything costly goes wrong, i cant just pay it out like that, which would mean I was carless, hence I wanted to see wat the main issues of daily use were...

Im beginning to think being into fookin performance cars is a bad idea....
