Default RS2000 I4 Engine,any good for turboing??

Hi, been thinking about turbocharging my rs2000, it seems to be a strong engine, and having a strong gearbox aswell, could i get away with using one of those de-compression plates, and a few other mods to the block for oil/water feeds etc,

Whats the efi mangenment like on rs2000s?, can the ecu be re-mapped to suit turbocharging?,

or is it best to rip the I4 lump out and build a zetec turbo engine?

you can get away with using a ferriday engineering decompression plate, but its a bit of a pikey situation and you can't run much over 9-10psi. You'll need to also find a suitable manifold. Then you can run the rest of it on FRST management as far as i'm aware.

BUt yes its best to run a ZT, cheaper, tried n tested

Motorsport Developments have built a circa 300bhp RS2000 turbo (was owned by Kenny @ M.D) - but it might well be easier to do a Zetec Turbo with so much info on them these days...

Look for "Neil" on the Interford board. He has a 4i running one and its not a cheap thing to do.

Neil runs a 14 but its the early 8v not the 16v.

Its the same engine and set as mine however he has low comp bottom end and MBE.

I run a the origanal Turbo Technics spec but tweaked to 200bhp+

I'm sure Stu said on a recent post you'd be looking around Ł5k to do it properly.

needed a bit of a polish that did but yes, it was about a few years back

and if you think thats pretty, you should have seen the exhaust manifold on the other one but at least it worked

cheers lads for the help, i take it. its gonna be expensive to turbo it up then!,

How about supercharging or nitrous?, i can install most things myself, just getting things setup though!.

or i would like as close to 200bhp as possible, im also in 2 minds to cvh frst it, u see my rs2000 is a cossie rep, so i need so sort of turbo engine to finish it off!
