Piece of piss to find mate as its a popular place, can go a number of ways depending where your coming from? It might be a bit of a ball ache from the A1 though, its quite slow going on the A52 from the A1 to Notts due to lame drivers and bloody lorries 
The A52 would take you all the way to derby and you could get on the A6 from there, have a look, you'll have to put in grantham or newark depending which way your coming.

You can leave the A1 at either grantham or newark depending if your coming from the north or south.

where abouts you coming from? if its a bit further north would go through chesterfield off j29 of the m1.lovely road from chesterfield to matlock 
.especially shap hill,any car can hit v-max going down there.just watch out for the plods.

im on the door step of matlock.
go A52, then head towards A38 north, come off at matlock turn off, down a610 towards the A6. then onto a6 to matlock, well easily sign posted mate. u'll have no probs finding it.
coming off the m1 at 29 is a good run but can be a ball ache. the matlock to chesterfield road is good, and the hill is called "slack hill" not shap hill, and as dangerous said, u can easily hit ur top end limiter down there lol

why would you go down to j25 when your coming from the north? when you can get off at j29 instead.
i knew that hill was called something else,just couldn't think of it at the time .
a1-m1-j29m1-a617 to chesterfield-a619-a632 to matlock.

a52 grantham to notts is a balls ache during the day, esp rush hour. fookin lorrys piss me off! some times you can overtake 10 cars in a row, there are a few long straights. watch out for the specs straight after watton prison on your right, bout 13 miles after grantham... theres about 4 pairs one after another.
