Anyone live in Northern Ireland on here?
Possibly stupid question for anyone living in Ireland...
Northern Ireland money - it's Sterling I take it?
I'm selling a car tomorrow to a bloke from Ireland and he's paying cash in Northern Ireland notes - take it there is nothing wrong with this? (as it's a few quid and I would rather not be ripped off....)
cheers for any help

Agreed with tony, make sure you get Bank of England notes!! Dont accept ulster bank or northern bank notes - may not be dodgey, but better to be on the safe side, just incase!

He's sending a truck over to collect the car tomorrow and wants to pay cash but he only has NI notes he says. Also no time to get English notes from the bank
Sounds plausible but I've not seen any before so don't really want to get screwed....if possible
Think I will just take the cash to the bank with him before releasing the car

Just be careful and keep an eye out, maybe take down the buyer's detail's incase you end up with Northern Bank note's and have to get the Police involved!
On a side note, I think large chunk's of the money have been found etc, Northern Bank issued new note's anyway so I think you should be ok.

Well i doubt he'd give you hooky notes, or evan those ones that were nicked, as he'd be giving his identity when you change the registration documents. I'd accept it
Scottish and Nothern Ireland notes arn't legally legal tender anyway because they don't have the queens head on it , simply and IOU that the Scottish and Northern Irish banks issue

Yeah - about 26.5 million mising - very little recovered - I doubt it very much it would be used to buy your car with as apparently they have been very careful with the laundering.
Northern Notes were re-issued: just incase you wana be really picky, heres a link to the stolen notes serial numbers with pictures of the stolen notes:
http://www.psni.police.uk/index/medi...ank_serial.htm
and that's another useful one:

My advice is as above - take them to the bank with the gentleman as if he is genuine he shouldn't mind. If they are Ulsterbank notes etc they should be fine - just check serial numbers are different and all the usual stuff. It's harder than it seems to get English notes in large quantities over here
Hope this helped

Yeah my stepdad used to work in "da" bank man , thats the Royal bank of Scotland and he told me, and me not knowing any better belived him, perfectly reasonable if you think about it.
To make it legitimate, for every pound the bank prints a note for, the bank that prints it has to put in the equivalent amount ina deposite to the bank of England. so basically the Royal bank buys currency of the bank of England so they can print it in their own notes
Totally pointless
