I hate always getting asked this.
After going to NI and coming back with either Northern Bank or Ulster Bank notes in my wallet people are always refusing to take them in shops - this was even before the whole bank raid issue.
They seem to think the notes are from the ROI, and forget they have never used pounds, and are using Euros now instead of punts. I even had to explain to my manager once that all NI notes are in sterling and it is clearly marked
On the issue of the stolen notes, you just gotta know what they look like and stay away from them - mind you ive got a new Northen Bank fiver (is blue and has actual see through parts on it) that looks really fake

Well, done deal, took them to the bank and the shutters didn't come down around me so I reckon the notes must have been OK
