RS Turbo's
not been driving the RS much these days, but after watching fifth gear, wanted to take it for a blast..
any way on the way back towards home, pulled up at the lights, and the chap next to me beeps... thought, oh no, here we go
winds down his wiindow... thumbs up and comments on ondition etc...
got me thinking, even after 18 years people still have reckognise these cars...
is the RS T the most respected hot hatch in this day.... definately..
made my day it did..
Suppose cossie drivers get it alot too?

Resected hot hatch of it's day, or of all time?
Personally, I would say neither - both the Mk1 Golf GTi, and the 205GTi outclass it in terms of respect - the Mk1 in terms of its iconic status, and the 205 because of it's legendary handling/motorsport pedigree.......

The RS Turbo was top dog when the Escort was Britains best selling car so I guess it still gets recognised. Grey RS, who owns my old S2 tells me it she still gets people coming over and asking about it.
They're a legend in their own lunch time

i work in a garage on a A road and when mines parked out front you get all sorts of people asking about her! ( more than they do about the honda s2000 + integra type R that are nxt to it) all different ages.. no matter were you go people always seem to mention how nice it look's for its age, and it is nice to have it said to ya, just shows that all the hard work we put it to keep em clean is worth it!

Hardly the "original" hot hatch though.
It didn't pave the way for anything new really did it?
don't get me wrong, it's a cool car if you like your Fords, but iconic hot hatch? It's well down the list...........

they might not have been as good a car as the pug gti but imo the RSTs are far cooler, ive had a pug and although it was fun to drive noone ever took no notice of it whereas the turbos ive owned all got loads of attention from young and old people ,says it all really

It was first FWD Hatch with a slipper.......
I agree the 205 for example has better dynamic attributes but I've never had as much attention as when I used to take the 16i out after a clean....always had people standing round at the petrol station and was always getting waved at. flashed etc.....

being completely unbiased here....
hot hatches are mainly used by younger boy racers lets be honest. i can't honestly see many 'boy racers' choosing a pug gti, colt turbo, uno turbo, golf gti or even R5GTT over a RST except maybe for insurance reasons. and this is going on what ALOT of ppl have told me....
so in that sense yeah it is the best old skool hot hatch

being a owner of mk1 and 2 fiat uno turbos and a ren 5 gt. i wud defintly say in terms of my series 2 rs none of those come close. my mk2 uno was a really nice car but jus didnt have the presence a rs turbo has. its got to be due to the fact that if you have a mint rs turbo or cossie people of old and young generations really do rate the car.. i reckon most old cars that were turbo were fun though. cuz nothing gives a buzz on the road like a car hitting full boost. in my eyes 3 of the top older cars has to be the rs turbo the cossie and a bmw 325 i motorsport.. still think for cars that are quite old now that they still dont luk out of place today.

agreed
thing is all the 16 year olds see or breath on now are gay saxos or peugeot 106 etc etc , you know the score
but even at the age they are and ya tear uo the st with the old d/v or chatter they stil recognise the car
there will i doubt ever be a car or ford cars i should say that wil ever ever have the cult following they have unless its a ferrair/lambo etc that makes peeps turn heads
