it may be about time to back everything up and reinstall windows from scratch, it sounds like part of your os install is damaged rather than a virus or whatever

you can, i used to with ME and 2000 pro, but with XP pro I prefer to start from scratch - blank DVD-Rs aren't that expensive, neither are second hard drives - plus you should have things backed up anyway, PCs ain't so reliable

Don't be so hasty my pedigree chum

NOw, although this isn't the exact problem / message, it might help.

SYMPTOMS
When you start Windows, Internet Explorer, or a Windows-based program, you may receive the following error message:
Runtime Error 216 at Address
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your computer is infected with a SubSeven Trojan virus.

To determine if your computer is infected with this virus, visit the following Web sites:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven....subseven.html (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven....subseven.html)

http://www.commandsoftware.com/virus/backdoor.html (http://www.commandsoftware.com/virus/backdoor.html)

http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/subseven.shtml (http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/subseven.shtml)
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, run an updated antivirus program to remove the virus from your computer.

Make sure that all your infected computers are physically disconnected from the Internet and any other networks while you work to resolve this issue. For instructions about how to recover an infected computer, visit the following Carnegie Mellon Web site:
http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/root_compromise.html (http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/root_compromise.html)
Microsoft does not provide software that can detect or remove computer viruses. If you suspect or confirm that your computer is infected with a virus, obtain current antivirus software. For a list of antivirus software manufacturers, click the following article number to see the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Also, downloading the latest version of Jave could help resolve this

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Alternatively, it could be the main folder options controlled by windows which can easily be changed, of, possibly an icon / folder which is possibly damaged.

Let me know how you get on Chris

it looks like its a duff video/codec file in one of the folders under the preview thing so i'll turn that off and see how that goes.
